Gave the new Blind Guardian a listen. I had hear some of their songs before (and liked them) but never tried out a full album so I didn't really have much to compare this to but I enjoyed it! It was a little long and a bit goofy at times but overall was good quality metal. I loved the symphonic elements, gave it a cinematic quality. The big choruses were fun too, usually I don't go for that sort of thing but I liked it here. What's with the bonus track in the middle of the album? I thought that was an odd placement. Regardless it's a pretty cool track!

Looking forward to checking more of this stuff out for the survivor.

I'm glad that helped to get you into them Mosh! You absolutely need to check out the 14 minute long And Then There Was Silence. It's like 15 different songs all in one!

This is pretty sweet to see.

With the support of one of the most loyal fan bases in the worldwide heavy metal community, Beyond The Red Mirror, the tenth studio album by epic metal’s most exalted storytellers, Blind Guardian, has attained the highest first-week US sales numbers for the band in the history of their existence and has debuted at #132 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, #3 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, and #6 on the Top Hard Music chart.

In Canada, Blind Guardian nearly doubled their first-week numbers from 2010, resulting in Beyond The Red Mirror debuting at #49 on the Top 200 and #4 on the Top Hard Music charts.
I would like to see exactly how many copies were sold in the first week though. Their last album only sold 4,400 copies in the first week. However, that did not reflect how well their concert did because the venue I saw them at was completely packed. That's rare to see. Usually if a band's album sales are that low, you won't see more than 200 people at a show.

First setlist of the tour:

http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/blind-guardian/2015/kulturfabrik-krefeld-germany-53cb579d.html

Pros:
- A Past & Future Secret, Banish From Sanctuary, Bright Eyes, Journey Through The Dark, The Last Candle (didn't hear these the previous time)

Cons:
- new songs... don't like 'em
- no Time Stands Still or Welcome To Dying :( I heard those, but they should be staples
- they are still playing Fly, Tanelorn (Into The Void), Wheel Of Time... good songs, but shouldn't be staples

But I'm going no matter the setlist... unless they play whole A Night At The Opera or the last album in full... or something silly like that... It's worth it just for Bright Eyes and Last Candle. Plus this is the first show of the tour, I think they're gonna shorten this list and mix it up as the tour goes on... and there's still month and a half until they get here.

It's good to see that they aren't so obsessed with songs from Nightfall anymore, to be honest. It's a great album, but the setlist dominance was a self-parody.

Did I read well that you find it a great album? Two of your alltime favourite studio people have contributed.

    • Charlie Bauerfeind – mixing of interludes
    • Flemming Rasmussen, Charlie Bauerfeind and Piet Sielck – mixing engineers
    • Charlie Bauerfeind – recording and engineering of drums, percussion, lead and backing vocals, bass guitars, piano and interludes
    • Piet Sielck – recording and engineering of lead, rhythm and acoustic guitars, keyboards and orchestral effects
I'd have to give this some thought, but as a rule of thumb, the following people's involvement tends to scare me away from listening: Charlie Bauerfeind, Kai Hansen, Michael Kiske, Tim Owens, Ralf Scheepers, Piet Sielck and Luca Turilli. And probably lots more when I think of them.
*Cough, cough*

Blind Guardian - Run for the Night
That song was the absolute highlight of the show when I saw them, once. The difference in audience reaction compared with the other songs was the biggest I've ever experienced in all concerts I ever went to.
Wow, I'm jealous. When was that concert? I don't think they played Run For The Night a lot even in their early years.
13-4-2002, in Biebob, Vosselaar (Belgium)
It was the tour for A Night At The Opera. I found a review in Dutch (written by the guy with whom I went to the gig) with the setlist, but the order is not 100% sure.

War of Wrath
Into the Storm
Welcome to Dying
Nightfall
Under the Ice
The Bard's Song - In the Forest
The Script for my Requiem
Run For The Night
The Soulforged
Valhalla
Mordred's Song
Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill)
Punishment Divine
Imaginations from the Other Side
- - - - - - -
Lost in the Twilight Hall
A Past and Future Secret
Mirror Mirror

This was the only time I saw them.

For fuck's sake...
Two of my favorites - Bright Eyes and Last Candle get dropped for the 2nd show... http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/blind-guardian/2015/effenaar-eindhoven-netherlands-13c8a921.html... for a song I don't care (Mordred) and for admittedly an awesome song (Twilight Hall).

They may bring back those songs they dropped. For their At The Edge Of Time tour, I'm pretty sure they rotated songs in and out. They sometimes do things in a strange way. Before my show, they were opening with Sacred Worlds and Wheel Of Time was the encore and for my show, the opened with Into The Storm and Sacred Worlds was the encore. I think they also switched between Tanelorn and A Voice In The Dark. Here are sets from quite a few of the shows to give you an idea: http://www.setlist.fm/search?page=2&query=blind guardian&year=2010 Regardless of what they do, a BG show is a VERY amazing experience like a Maiden show.

For the concert that I'm going to later in the year, I'm just going to be shouting Majesty until they play it. :D
