Re: Black Sabbath Survivor: The Devil You Know round 4 (Feb 19-21)

Anno Mundi and Shaking Off the Chains.

As an aside, Atom & Evil and Bible Black are freaking awesome.  The new (well, last year) album is growing on me.

Re: Black Sabbath Survivor: The Devil You Know round 4 (Feb 19-21)

Atom & Evil I find the best track from the new album, as we call it. The first half of the album I find quite good as well.

Still, in the end, I have more with Anno Mundi than this stuff, and the aggression and energy of Shaking Off The Chains is really grabbing me by the throat.

Re: Black Sabbath Survivor: The Devil You Know round 4 (Feb 19-21)

Sorry I missed the Sabbath and Rush updates yesterday. I was busy elsewhere. We'll start again tomorrow.

I agree with you.  My only complaint from their concert last year is that they did not play this song live.

Anno Mundi (and When Death Calls) worse than that bunch of forgettable songs, you guys are overlooking?
Inspired by someone in the Deep Purple Survival. Get rid of the crack. Now! ;)

Neverwhere
Double The Pain
Rock And Roll Angel

Re: Black Sabbath Survivor: The Devil You Know round 5 (Feb 23-25)

Well, perhaps you just didn't listen to those songs enough.

Re: Black Sabbath Survivor: The Devil You Know round 5 (Feb 23-25)

Enough to realize that these songs aren't half as good as the average song of the Martin period.
When Death Calls and Anno Mundi are no average songs of any era, they are top league Sabbath material, classic metal tunes of the highest quality.

Re: Black Sabbath Survivor: The Devil You Know round 5 (Feb 23-25)

I agree, but one has to be too deaf to not realize that Atom And Evil, Bible Black, Double The Pain (classic Sabbath) and Neverwhere are all new classics. Jerusalem, Devil & Daughter and Heaven In Black are just as deserving (talking of overlooked classics on Headless Cross and Tyr).

One or two, but surely not all four.

Remarkable choices -I rather pick out the more atmosperical and epic tracks- but at least you appreciate some songs from this (on this forum) greatly overlooked era.

I'd hoped that we would get at least one Martin-era song in the top 10. If we won't have any of these songs left in this latest phase, I think that wouldn't do justice to those five albums.
