Re: BEST GUITARISTS EVER GAME: Suggestions
I'll bring in these seven guys.
Per Nilsson (Scar Symetry)
Craig Goldy (Dio)
Nils Norberg (Nocturnal Rites)
Lars Johansson (Candlemass)
Steve Hillage (Canterbury scene, psycadelic rock, electronica)
John McLaughlin (Mahavishna Orchestra, jazz, Indian classical music, fusion, and Western classical music and flamenco)
Django Reinhardt (jazz, Gypsy music)
I am able to promote** each of these seven guys and I'm pretty sure most of you might be appealed. However, if you find some of these not known enough, please let me (co-)decide which to eliminate. I at least would love to keep the latest three I mentioned (Hillage, McLaughlin, Reinhardt).
By the way, I'd also love to do Andy Powell (Wishbone Ash) and Ted Turner (Wishbone Ash) but the problem is that I am not aware yet which dude plays which solo. I recognize the different styles, but don't know who is who! A shame because they're both amazing. That's why we should leave them out (weird, if Wishbone Ash had one guitarist it wouldn't be a problem.
)
I have another favourite jazz guitarist (Grant Green) but I feel he hasn't a chance on this forum (this man was a melodic genious with his improvisations, but I think people out here care more about technique), so I'll leave him out as well.
**Is it possible to promote guitarists? I can imagine that some are unknown here, but that doesn't mean that they're not famous (enough).
I could post a few clips later on, alright?

Maybe we could divide the guitarists into they're respective era's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, etc.
I wouldn't do that. Some guitarists are active in 5 decades or so.
I wouldn't even make categories (genres). Just mix all these guys randomly (not alphabetic), and bring them on in groups of 10-15 players per group.
With small groups people might take more time to investigate every player. I expect these forumers to be open minded enough to listen to each guitarist if he doesn't know him (well) yet. Even if someone doesn't care for a certain style of music, maybe he still can be impressed by what the guitarist has done. Style (genre) doesn't matter. It's the works!
