BEST BAND EVER: Results!

So... I like Downey's playing but Dee is way more versatile and modern. Obviously he's most well known for his work in Motörhead but I think his short stint in King Diamond's band showed off his chops way better. In Motörhead it's way more about speed and keeping pace than anything else.

As for the 2nd pairing: Mackintosh is a solid drummer but without any character... I didn't even notice the change in drummers once he left the band. Tomas Haake is a cyborg with unparalleled precision and stamina. If we stuck to just metal he really should be able to go all the way in this game.

Dave Lombardo (SLAYER)
vs.
Thomen Stauch (BLIND GUARDIAN, SAVAGE CIRCUS)

Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX)
vs.
Mike Bordin (FAITH NO MORE, OZZY OSBOURNE)

I'm sure we're supposed to vote for the thrash options all the way here, but Stauch is pretty impressive and not thrash. Drumming isn't something that comes to mind with FNM, Benante makes more of an impression.

I once watched in awe as Dave Lombardo--a drummer--literally took over a Suicidal Tendencies show. I have never seen a drummer just utterly dominate a space like that.

Lombardo is my favorite drummer so he gets my vote whoever is the opponent. Thomen was pretty good though, and obviously bigly inspired by Ingo from Helloween. His presence is missed on the recent BG albums, but not so much live tbh.

I'm actually really surprised Bordin is getting pummeled like this. Maybe it's my anti-Anthrax bias but I always found his awesome and thought that he was like a younger version of Bill Ward (so it makes sense that he replaced him for a bit in the 1990's in Black Sabbath). Also was surprised they didn't ask him to play with them once they kicked out Ward again.

Alex Van Halen (VAN HALEN)
vs.
Ed Warby (AYREON, HAIL OF BULLETS, STAR ONE)

Jörg Michael (RUNNING WILD, SAXON, STRATOVARIUS)
vs.
Simon O'Laoghaire (PRIMORDIAL)

Any more voters?

First match was one of the toughest ones yet. Alex Van Halen was way ahead of its time. Even the stuff he played in the 1970's sounds modern by today's standards, except maybe the production. However, as with all of Van Halen, he slid into mediocrity once DLR left and did nothing of note for like 35 years. Ed Warby, however, played in multiple bands, in multiple genres, and pretty much kicked ass in all of them. So... Ayreon bias gives Ed Warby my vote.

As for the 2nd pair, Simon is a great drummer, but Jörg is way more influential and original. His drumming in Stratovarius is pretty much a blueprint on how drums should sound in power metal.

Van Halen shows a lot of skill, but that Gorefest vid tips the balance for me in favour of Warby. Second pair is tough. Primordial strike me as a very drum centric band, could be the production that rather than the focus of the music. Michael comes across as everything I'd want in a metal drummer, though, so Michael it is.
