Really not a contest for me.
Seventh Son is good, but not even among my favourite Maiden albums.
SiT is definitely a contender for favourite album ever.

Ah OK. Zare is one of the biggest fans of Somewhere in Time (and knows a lot about Mr Smith his guitars, and he is also a specialist in e.g. good sounding bootlegs). He hasn't been this active lately, and that's why some of you might not know this yet. :)

...Somewhere in Time!

(And of course that should say Maidenfans, not Maidens)

It's most worthy choice and one I think will be pretty well-received.
It didn't get a vote until the final three, and only got six the entire game

Thanks for playing. It's been fun.

So I am reasonably satisfied with the results.
About half the non-Maiden top ten would be in my top 10 and the others are worthy choices.
And I am perfectly happy with the number one choice.

Oddly enough, the most overrated album on there is a Maiden album: Seventh Son, which is no more than middle of the pack on my Maiden list, and not a top 10 contender at all.

My list of top 20 essential albums that were in the game (off the top of my head, in order of release) is very skewed to early '80s metal:
Thin Lizzy — Jailbreak
Blue Oyster Cult — Spectres
AC/DC — Back in Black
Judas Priest — British Steel
Black Sabbath — Heaven and Hell
Rush — Permanent Waves
Black Sabbath — Mob Rules
Judas Priest — Screaming For Vengeance
Rush — Moving Pictures
Dio — Holy Diver
Iron Maiden — Number of the Beast
Iron Maiden — Piece of Mind
Judas Priest — Defenders of the Faith
Rush — Grace Under Pressure
Iron Maiden — Powerslave
Iron Maiden — Somewhere in Time
Queensryche — Operation Mindcrime
Saxon — Unleash the Beast
Halford — Resurrection
Iron Maiden — The Final Frontier

Thanks a lot for hosting mckindog! I enjoyed it a lot!

You've put lots of time into it. How long did this game take?

About the best album by era outside the top 10 (not including Maiden):
Tyranny is from 2005.

Longer evaluation on the results will follow later.

edit:
I wouldn't have minded to see how well Maiden's least good albums (top 11-15 albums) did, per era. Maybe we could still figure that out.

One thing about the best album by era outside the top 10 (not including Maiden):
Tyranny is from 2005.

You're right. I made that mistake in the game as well and forgot to change it on my master sheet.
I think that would make Tyranny the top choice for 2005/09 and Blackwater Park the top choice for 2000/04.
Too tired to check now. Should not have tried to do this after a 14-hour shift.

Great - thanks for organising it.
I don't think anyone can be unhappy with the results - it's people's choice after all, agree with the positions or not ;)

I am satisfied with the results. My two favourite bands were well represented.
My three favourite Maiden albums even came out in the correct order!

I think the European metal bands were underrated, or simply overlooked. I especially think some Helloween records have everything in them to appeal to people who like Maiden. They went out way too soon. The same goes for Sabbath's Headless Cross. I also thought some Iced Earth records would last longer.

These are my favourite non-Maiden albums that were in the game:

Favourite 18 (chronological order):
Black SabbathVolume 4
Pink FloydAnimals
Judas PriestSin After Sin
Judas Priest — Stained Class
Judas Priest — British Steel
RushMoving Pictures
Judas Priest — Defenders of the Faith
DioLast in Line
HelloweenWalls of Jericho
Helloween — Keeper of the Seven Keys 1
Black Sabbath — Headless Cross
Judas Priest — Painkiller
Iced EarthNight of the Stormrider
Bruce DickinsonBalls to Picasso
Gamma RayLand of the Free
Iced Earth — Burnt Offerings
Bruce Dickinson — Accident of Birth
SaxonUnleash The Beast

These 4 would battle for position 19-20 (can't make up my mind now):
Black Sabbath — Heaven and Hell
Rush — Grace Under Pressure
Helloween — Keeper of the Seven Keys 2
Bruce Dickinson — Chemical Wedding
