Berlin, 18. June 2013

Bruce/Janick's flag business was the same for our gig too, and I agree Aces High was slower - although I mostly only noticed it during the chorus.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves :) Foro looks super excited :P

Where is the Stauffenberg Memorial?

It's a bit to the west of Potsdamer Platz and south of Tiergarten. It's worth visiting, and there's a big exhibition on German resistance in the Third Reich, but you'd be well-advised to get an English audio guide, because the displays are exclusively in German.

Cool, close to where we are staying ... added to the list of stuff to see. Thanks. I can actually read German fairly well, speaking and listening is another story :)

Pity about the shit bits though. Phone filming, at concerts, is becoming a serious pain in the arse, & atmosphere killer...

Mostly I think for those filming, you are right in from of a big stage with the band in front of you and you are watching it on a 3" screen WTF? I will maybe a take one or two pics if there is someone that could not make the show to send ... or of the stage before the show starts. But I want to soak in the visuals and the music .. not worry about the lighting or if I am holding my hand steady ... fuck that.

So, it was a great time, I'd say the drinking was not too heavy (but not pussy-wise either), and I always love spending time with these guys.
Vice versa mate! I had a great time! Despite the heat we did quite a few things and explored the city once again.
On Maiden:
Yes, they indeed played some songs slower. I noticed it best during Wasted Years (very slow) and Can I Play With Madness. Also the snare drum wasn't that audible at times. Not sure what was going on. I am afraid Nicko was a bit tired and I couldn't suppress the thought that his age is getting him sooner than later.

Highlights: Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Phantom of the Opera and Seventh Son. To see ATSS after 15 years was a great deja-vu. Such a good live song, with excellent build-up of the tension and then those magic melodies.

Despite Adrian having problems during Seventh Son (his echo didn't work in the calm middle and he didn't look happy about it), it naturally was a feast to see a top 5 Maiden song for the first time. Special credit to Bruce (who reminded me of Dracula). After his speech he left the stage by walking down stairs, behind the podium, but while doing that, he turned his head sideways and looked at the audience, with a dark face. Haunting! And so cool how some candles went on just before that. I also remember him "directing" explosions (showing the power of the seventh son!), a bit a la the scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Very impressive show. There was a second song I'd never seen on a Maiden set: The Prisoner (saw Bruce doing it with the Skunkworks band though). Not as impressive but still nice. The audience was indeed tame, but compared to some Dutch gigs I've witnessed, it was pretty OK I guess.

Tuesday Amsterdam!
See you in Stockholm!
Hell Yes! :edmetal:

edit:
By the way, I just came home. Yesterday evening I missed my transfer due to bad weather. I was forced to stay at a hotel in Frankfurt. :/

I'm sorry to hear that. You don't seem to be very lucky getting out of Berlin...

Indeed. Big delay in Berlin. About an hour later. So I missed the flight to Amsterdam, a matter of minutes. I was annoyed that they didn't wait. Grr. Shit happens.
Next time by car perhaps. :)

@Perun I'm sure the Crowd in Stockholm well be far better than the Berlin crowd. I would have never thought that about Berlin. I saw the death on the road dvd and the Dortmund crowd was amazing. Although to be fair not many places can be louder than a Dortmund crowd.

83's crowd was pretty great. 04's was rather lifeless. Or maybe that was just the way they shot it.

It has been a long time since I watched Death on the Road (listen to it on occasion) ... but I seem to recall some of the crowd shots seemed misplaced to me. That was just a pretty bad video all the way around ... but at least it sounds good.

Haven't watched it in 10 years. Brought my DVD back -angry about the shitty technical problems- and never got a new one since.

I remember the bad vocal performance and Janick fucking up the intro of Lord of the Flies (messy playing).

Unfortunately, there were also some downsides. One of them was the excessive use of cameras by the people in front of me. [...] I only saw it through the cameras, and that pissed me off so much that [...] What's the point of taking five hundred poor quality pictures of the gig if everybody around you takes the same five hundred, and it's all on the internet the next day? I don't mind the occasional camera showing up, but when you actually don't see anything of the show because of that, and everybody else around you is watching the show through the camera, it's going too far.
Check this out. Ridiculous:
