On Tuesday, 18. June 2013, a band of people from this board will gather at my place and set off to see a band we all know live in Berlin.
Last time this happened here (in 2011), we had a great time, and some people joined in on short notice after making arrangements on this board. This is to let anybody who reads this know that, if you are planning to go to the gig in Berlin, you are welcome to join in. There is beer at my place before the show, but perhaps more importantly, a bunch of cool people.
A "Heavy Metal Parking Lot Maiden Edition" event is scheduled by a few friends of mine outside the venue at 17:00, and this promises to be a great gathering of people, all (or most) of whom I know pretty well. So if you can't make it to my place, that is another possibility for a meet-up.
So, if you are interested in joining in, post here or PM me, and we will make arrangements.
Sounds like fun, have a great time! Beware of getting TOO intoxicated for Maiden shows. I recall getting so stoned at the SiT show in 1986 that I barely remember anything that happened. I just recall sitting (not standing) and listening to my teeth vibrate. It was pretty cool, but I feel like I missed out because I didn't recall much.
Just checked, evidently we don't have Jever in Southern California. The reviews say it's pretty good.
All in all, it was a really enjoyable time. It's always great to have Nush and Foro over, and we had many a drink and many a laugh, even if it was really bloody hot. You wouldn't believe how hot it was.
So anyway, after I picked the two up from the airport, we went to my place to have a drink, late lunch/early dinner, and then went to the gig. We hung around at the venue for a few hours, drank a few beers, met some mates of mine, drank some more beers, and had a good time. We entered the hall while Voodoo Six were playing. They weren't bad, but I honestly don't remember much of their music. Not because of the beer, but because it was just standard hard rock.
I was very excited before Maiden hit the stage, and I don't even know why. It was my 14th gig, and still it felt like something special. That's pretty great. But what of the gig. We all agreed that it was a pretty average concert by Maiden standards, which obviously still means they would blow away pretty much anyone. The key problem was, in my opinion, that the crowd wasn't very special. Berlin audiences have a reputation for being a tough nut, and they really did everything to confirm it that night. Maybe I just had an unlucky spot, being surrounded by people who didn't move or even did as much as nod their head to anything but Run to the Hills... seriously, I stood in my spot for the entire gig. That's a long way from being shoved from one part of the arena to the other.
Bruce seemed a bit tired, but still overall in a good mood. He was in the know about the happenings in town that day, more precisely the Bon Jovi gig that night and Obama's visit. He said something like, "Obama is in town tonight (much booing from the audience), and he's at the Bon Jovi gig, so Bon Jovi is here tonight." He also said "Ich bin ein Berliner" at some point.
To me, the highlights this night were The Prisoner and Phantom of the Opera. Adrian in particular was brilliant.
Some of the songs were played pretty slow, especially Wasted Years and Aces High. The latter maybe even slower than on the album. I don't know what to make of it, I just thought it was worth noting. Also, Bruce covered Janick with his flag during The Trooper, the brat.
Unfortunately, there were also some downsides. One of them was the excessive use of cameras by the people in front of me. When Eddie came on stage during Run to the Hills, I only saw it through the cameras, and that pissed me off so much that I actually had trouble enjoying Seventh Son of a Seventh Son afterwards. What's the point of taking five hundred poor quality pictures of the gig if everybody around you takes the same five hundred, and it's all on the internet the next day? I don't mind the occasional camera showing up, but when you actually don't see anything of the show because of that, and everybody else around you is watching the show through the camera, it's going too far.
After the gig, we went to my mates' place, had a beer, and then went to a local metal bar, and had some more beers, played some pool, had more beers, and enjoyed the fact that the place was playing only Maiden and Priest videos all night.
Yesterday, we went to Potsdam and Sanssouci palace, and to the Viking Bar in Berlin; today, we had a glimpse at the Stauffenberg memorial in Berlin.
So, it was a great time, I'd say the drinking was not too heavy (but not pussy-wise either), and I always love spending time with these guys. See you in Stockholm!
Here's some photos:

very cool ... except the few parts you did not like ... I do not get why people try to video the show with a cell phone 99 times out of 100 it looks like crap. My memory is good enough that I can remember what I saw ... and there is always more professional stuff on the internet.
