i read from multiple sources that last year bruce hinted on stage that they would do ATG on the next tour. Can anyone tell me when he did? and a quote would be nice too

What were your sources? Because it sounds bogus to me... I have watched/listened to A LOT of the SBIT concerts/bootlegs and never once heard anything about ATG

I remember hearing a rumor that Bruce, in Greece 2005, announced they would one day play it live... but I don't know if this was true or not, all I've done is heard of it, no confirmation though.

And also, and not to crush any of your hopes... but if I remember correctly (and no, I don't have an exact quote or source, but have heard this for a long time now over the last several years)... Steve Harris and Adrian Smith HATE the song, and said that they will never play it live.

Not that it is a bad song, but I really don't get all the hype this song gets. The lyrics are terrible, and the song is mediocre at best. It is my least favorite song on the album.

I never heard anything of the sort, and would also like to see a quote/source if this is true (which I'm highly doubting)

I'd REALLY like to read this quote that 'Arry and H hate Alexander The Great.

It seems you don't know what you really think of the song. How can something has terrible lyrics (which definetly aren't. Some wrong facts, but are the true stories we're told really what happened?), be mediocre at best, muscially and still be not that bad?

I do think the lyrics are terrible, and that the song is mediocre, but that doesn't mean I hate it... therefore no I don't think it is a bad song, I just don't care much for it.

Don't have a quote or source, sorry. Wish I did. But it has always come up in the past on several topics/forums when regarding ATG

Supposedly Adrian Smith can't remember the guitar solo (sounds bullshit, I know, but it's the story I've heard countless times), and that Steve and Bruce have both admitted that they don't like the lyrics. Therefore, they never want to play it live

I guess the appeal with ATG is that is that the 'epic that never got played'.  Harris almost always makes sure that the album epic becomes a prominent part of the setlist.  Mariner, Sign of the Cross, Paschendale, SSOASS, Hallowed, Phantom etc...were all 'show stoppers' during their respective initial tours and still pop up occassionally in the setlist.  It's weird that ATG & To Tame a Land kinda fell off the map.

To Tame A Land was played on the POM tour.

If I recall correctly, it was Bruce who said that he would never sing the song because of the horrible lyrics (in an interview somewhere). Adrian forgetting his solo is total bullshit, maybe they mentioned it jokingly.

Who knows, maybe it is Bruce who's responsible, maybe he was offended that none of his material made it to the SIT album so he thought "f... you, I won't sing your epic song on tour as payback" (back in 1986, of course).

What Ranko says is what I think it really is. Bruce detest Somewhere In Time and as none of his material was included, he refuses to sing more than WY and HCW. To Tame A Land is really a weird case as Steve said on an 1983 interview with John Sitx that it's the best song he ever wrote. Even if he prefered Rime Of The Ancient Mariner or Sign Of The Cross, which he wrote later, this song should've had a guaranteed place on the subsequent tours.

The problem with To Tame A Land is that the lyrics are very rambling. I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce doesn't want to sing it.

ATG will likely never be played. Accept it.

i think in 2013 they should play POM in its entirty imo its the best album with Bruce and since the albums tour 6 of the nine songs have survived. With the exception of QFF POM is imo maidens classic album

Here's what I'd love: If Maiden did a tour and rotated their setlist to cover every song that hasn't been done live and then released a live version of all their studio albums. Ah, it's nice to dream!

Bruce mocked the lyrics of TTAL on his last radio show IIRC.

I don't get how Bruce/Steve think some lyrics are great and others are lame.  I mean, let's be honest... Fear of the Dark is pure cheese (from a lyrical standpoint) yet somehow that song has ascended into 'legenday' status and has become a setlist anchor (don't get me wrong, that's a killer tune...but hardly a lyrical masterpiece).

I do agree with the earlier comments about Bruce hating SIT.  The Mick Wall book pretty much made it clear that Bruce was demoralized at that point so that could have been payback for Steve.

See what LC says above. Still, Bruce sung it just fine on the POM tour so he shouldn't have any problem with it now.

The lyrics being "rambling"? What does that even mean? I think the lyrics are great.

Good for him.  That song has embarrassingly bad lyrics.  The music is terrific, but really, I am not at all bothered by the fact that they don't play it live. I recall reading that Steve believed it was his favorite song, but I thought that was shortly after the Piece of Mind release, when he was probably a bit drunk on his own whiskey.  Perhaps a little distance has given him some clear perspective.  (As  Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth said at a recent concert after playing one of his earlier songs:  "When I wrote that song many years ago, I thought it was the greatest.  Now...I think it is shit.")  Plus, Bruce not liking the song can't be the ONLY reason it hasn't been played live, as Bruce hasn't always been in the band -- if Steve really thought it was his greatest song and wanted to play it live, he could have, during the Blaze years.

Without a stillsuit you would fry
On the sands so hot and dry
In a world called Arrakis.

It is a land that's rich in spice
The sandriders and the "mice"
That they call the "Muad'Dib".

He is the Kwizatz Haderach.
He is born of Caladan
And will take the Gom Jabbar.

I think that's what they meant... especially the last part. : P

Yeah it might be tough to get all those syllables out that fast, but c'mon, Bruce can handle it.

It sounds like rap, but Wrathchild too and I think both are great.

Actually some of the best rocks songs have a bit of rap style vocals, for example the verses of Back in Black are borderline rap.
