Albums of the decade: Your fave 5 albums from the 1980s (all genres)

Dick Brucinson

Dave Sustaine
Name your fave 5 albums from the 1980s (all genres) HERE.

Mine (no particular order):

Talk Talk - The Colour Of Spring
Arcadia - So Red The Rose ( = for those who don't know: that's basically Duran Duran under a pseudonym. it's Duran Duran doing melancholic non-commercial pop. so the greater Duran Duran actually...)
Billy Idol - Rebell Yell
Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
The Cure - Disintegration

Great thread.

It's very difficult to choose among so great albums.

I would say…

Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
AC/DC - Flick of the Switch
Marillion - Clutching at Straws
Jethro Tull - The Broadsword and the Beast
Manowar - Fighting the World

Hell yeah, Marillion. Landed almost on my list, too, but was swiped out by The Cure's Disintegration in the end.

Metallica - Master of Puppets
AC DC - Back in Black
Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2

1. Iron Maiden - Powerslave (1984)
2. Iron Maiden - Live After Death (1985)
3. Metallica - Master of Puppets (1986)
4. Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith (1984)
5. Rush - Moving Pictures (1981)

Another tough one to compile. My #6 would've been Slayer's Reign in Blood and frankly I don't feel good about not including it lol. Had to leave off other great albums like ABBA's The Visitors, Bonnie Tyler's Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fires, Mercyful Fate's Don't Break the Oath, and George Michael's Faith.

Powerslave, Live After Death, and Master of Puppets are contenders for my overall top 10. I'm still debating between Powerslave and LAD; LAD has become my go-to Maiden album if I need a shot of Iron Maiden, but I mostly just listen to the first three sides (aka the first CD). Powerslave I still love from beginning to end.

Guns’n roses - Appetide for destruction
Exodus - Bonded by blood
Metallica - Ride the lightning
Bathory - Under the sign of the black mark
Iron maiden - Somewhere in time

A really difficult task. I could list 5 Maiden albums, but I'll do it one album per band.

Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith
Dio - The Last In Line
Accept - Balls To The Wall
Helloween - Walls Of Jericho

The most difficult of all, considering it is my favourite decade in Metal/Hard rock.

Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Anthrax - Among The Living
Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith
Dokken - Under Lock And Key

Actually all the 80s albums by Maiden and Metallica, Beneath The Remains (Sepultura), Holy Diver (Dio), Abigail (King Diamond), Skid Row S/T just to name a few!

Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Marillion - Clutching At Straws

Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Judas Priest - British Steel
Metallica - Master of Puppets

Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Iron Maiden - Caught Somewhere In Time
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith
Daniel Balavoine - Sauver L'Amour (+ Michael Jackson - Thriller + Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind)

Slayer - Reign In Blood
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Metallica - Ride The Lightning
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time

This one is absolutely brutal. So many albums that deserve a mention here, but this is my best guess at a top 5, in alphabetical order:

Genesis - Invisible Touch
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Queensrÿche - Operation: Mindcrime
Rush -
Power Windows
