It also has to do with taste of course.
It has everything to do with taste. I like Wasted Years more than Sea Of Madness because I get more enjoyment out of listening to Wasted Years. My favorite song on that album (Alex the Great) has even less exposure than Sea Of Madness.

Taste of something you have experienced in one or more forms of exposure.

Yes, but the exposure thing is not about you as an individual. I spoke of general appreciation. Maybe I remember wrong but did Alex well in survivors? I am sure that this song also suffers from having no live experience.

Also I think exposure can work subconscious. I hope you don't mind I like to address this aspect every once in a while.

I think Sea of Madness is better than Wasted Years but I'm with Mosh on this argument. By argument I mean the video/DVD/compilation thing, being played live plays a role, so Foro is right on that one. Being played live can go around two opposite sides, the infamous "overplaying" comes to mind. I'm dead sure I'd enjoy Fear of the Dark (song) a lot more if it wasn't played to death.

@The Flash - I think that's why we're seeing Wasted Years get a higher number of votes: overexposure. Also the personal taste, thing :p

I would agree with Foro if this was a "FAVORITE MAiDeN song EVR!" poll on IronMaiden.com, but in all seriousness, this is the tenth round of a poll based on songwriting contributions by one member of the band on an independent web forum. I think we're a bit more discerning.

Could be. Not the case for me, though, I really like Wasted Years, Top 30 song for sure. It's just that Sea of Madness is a borderline Top 15 song for me. Wasted Years hasn't had a big fall since I first listened to whole discography four years ago, unlike other overplayed songs like Trooper and Fear of the Dark.

Here's something else I'd like to point out. Maiden doesn't get regular radio air play like a lot of bands do and sometimes, that has a lot to do with how people get into bands. They hear a song or 2 on the radio, they decide they like the song and want to investigate the band more. With Maiden, it's all really been word of mouth. One may decide to like Maiden on their own or they're influenced by another fan to check them out or find out about them in some other way. Then from there, form opinions about songs, albums etc. The Survivors, to me, are all based on opinion of what people like and don't like. It has nothing to do with the amount of exposure a song gets. Us here are great Maiden fans to the point where we've listened to the albums and we know what we like and don't like very easily and it's very clear on various threads and Survivors from what people have to say about certain songs or albums. I'm not exactly happy with what people vote for sometimes but I also keep in mind that it's their opinion and I respect that even if sometimes the opinions are ridiculous. :p

My votes have nothing to do with exposure, but simply enjoyment. The only reason a song would have less exposure than any other is because when I like a song more.. I play it more, also yes, I DO appreciate and pay attention to the entire catalogue - just because my ratings/rankings tend to be more centered around certain eras/albums does not mean I ignore certain parts of the discography, it just means I don't like it as much. For god sakes man, stop trying to find a reason that everyone elses tastes don't match your own and accept that people like different things.

For the record, Sea of Madness has 156 plays since my last media reset, so it's hardly a case of under exposure.

Last three posters: I am glad if you are able to respect mine, just as I respect yours. Crimson, I don't like your exaggerating but especially accusing and personal tone, in that sentence Mosh quoted. I am not finding a reason. I am just giving an opinion. I accept it if you think or say something else. Now where's your acceptance?

I haven't addressed any of you personally in a negative manner, so it'd be civil if you could do the same. For the rest I have no problem with what you guys are voting, nor with your posts.

I respect your decisions in terms of votes (you may notice I never argue about them?), but you don't seem to respect other peoples. Every time anyone votes for anything you will spend the entire thread trying to change their minds - no one else does this, they all accept a difference of opinion, say "It's a farce :O" and leave it at that. This time, instead of trying to persuade them about the song, you are making up some ridiculous reason for it - in this case "Under exposure". Perhaps its worth considering the reasons the songs are less 'exposed' is because in general they are liked less...

Perhaps it's time to accept that people have already thought about the votes they make BEFORE they make them, so writing lengthy posts that boil down to "No you're wrong, listen again and you'll totally see it my way" is pointless. However, even the post I have quoted you have said I am "moaning" about it, quite possibly, but again it points to the fact that you see any disagreement as in some way wrong or mis-informed. If this is moaning, there is quite possibly a reason for it....

It is only a freaking game - why am I getting frustrated with it then you may ask - because you are constantly doing this, refusing to accept why people have a differing opinion and telling them to re-evaluate, then calling any further disagreement a moan. I never even post what I have voted SPECIFICALLY to avoid this crap.
