"Access Denied"

The system my school uses blocks acces to this forum as it is categorised as "forums or groups". Does anybody have any way of getting round this, or personal stories of conquering computer opressors.
 
AH yes, the wonderful filters in highschools. I don't know how to bypass it but I can tell you this. I am personally resposible for them getting enforced at my old middle school hahahahaha. DAMN those were the days!
 
The 'official' charge was "Abuse of e-mail" along with framing a friend of view "inapropirate" websites hahahaha it was hilarious. the misuse was easy because e-mail accounts at school were completely open and did not requiere passwords, so I could write an e-mail pretending to be another person quite easily. So I sent several humorous e-mails, however I have a sick sense of humor so the school didn't find it too funny. The other case, a friend of mine was sitting the computer next to me and he left to get a book. I quickly typed "www.playgirl.com" and turned off the screen. when he came back he thought the joke was me turning off his screen.... the look on his face when he turned it back on!!! HAHAHAHA PRICELESS. He just said "what the?" I turned and very loudly exclaimed "dude! I didn't know you were into men!" the librarian looked over and wasn't too happy about my friend looking at naked men. Shortly after these incidents you would find signs that read "Internet and e-mail for SCHOOL USE ONLY" the filters got implemented ahead of schedule and passwords were quickly enabled on e-mail. Things that were going to happen anyway but I gladly sped up the process. While I found it very funny back then... and still do, I do realize I was an ass and while I don't act like that anymore (thank god) I'm glad I have an amusing past to reminesce over.

What does your school use to block "inapproprate material"? Websense?

It's the network that all schools in Northern ireland have, it's called "RM Network" or something. The school set the filters to block out porn, games and unfortunately forums. I used to be able to paste the hyperlink into Microsoft Word and then follow the link that way. The school has caught onto that however and now I can't acces maidenfans forums during schooltime [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
 
My guess is theres nothing you can do. They could have blocked URL's containing the word forum or this particular sites url on its own. Later, I did, but the computers were locked away unless they were used for class.

I feel so old.

At our school there were no computers. But we were given a pocket calculator (all 30 of us) and asked to imagine it was a PC. As this furthered our imagination it did very little for our computer skills. Then one day we were shown the old ZX spectrum mainboard, and of course we were asked to imagine it was a PC, at this point our imagination was furthered quite enough. And then our school got PC's but we weren't allowed to touch them. After about a year we started workin on our PC's, needless to say that our computer skills were so advanced that we didn't even know how to use a mouse. Three days later there was an internet pornography ban. I'm not really certain why I wrote this
but I feel better now.

As for your problem, try to access administrator's computer and add the forum to allowed sites list.

So I will come in at the weekends, undercovere of darkness with a team of the best hackers in the world. I will have a doorman and security crew to disengage the school's security system, and a hitman top assasinate the janitor.

Then my team of hackers will work overnight hacing into the administrators computer, deciphering analogue messages with a stethoscope. When I break in, I will add this site to the list of sites access is granted to.

I don't think you need to use hitmen, plastic explosives and gasoline will do just fine. While the staff is distracted with puting out the fires, you should unload a few dozen hamsters (small Eurasian rodents of the subfamily Cricetinae) for good measure. And after that you bring in a team of chinese superhacker paratroopers to secure the monkey's computer, followed by a naval bombardment of the school cafeteria securing your retreat to the bunkers where you should form a last ditch defence, releasing 50 hamsters (small Eurasian rodents of the subfamily Cricetinae) every fifteen minutes to confuse the smart bombs. When the superhacker paratroopers add the forum to the allowed sites list you sould leave them to face the first wave of Royal Scots infantry regiment. When I was at school, there were no computers in sight. Those who had the same power as an average home PC of today were the size of houses...

Remember back in the day when owning a 286 processer was like staring into the future? Funny how time catches up on everything...
 
My first pc was a 386. It was about ten times the size of my current one and did 33 Mhz. It had a turbo button. You could boost it to 66 Mhz that way.

It had two floppy drives, A: and B:. If you kids ever wondered why the first hard drive is actually "C:", not "B:" (for those of you who actually still have a floppy drive) or "A:" (for those who don't), the answer is simple: There were two kinds of floppies in those days, the small ones which you might still know, and larger ones.

And I still remember how happy I was about my first 1.2 GB hard drive. Files that were 500 KB in size were huge at that time.

However, this was not my first computer. My computer was a Commodore 64. It only had the "B:" type floppy drive.
 
B: floppy disks eh? Man, they were strange alright. As well as the fact that hard drives were stupidily huge. And of course the video game sounds PCs made. Bleeeeeeeeep blooooopppp bleeeepp and so on. Gotta love the old school sounds. Sorry for bumping a (slightly) old topic, but I do know one way of getting past school web filters. So you can visit forums and the like, of course...

Do a google search for "PHProxy". Depending on the type of filter, the sites might be blocked, but there are usually a few they've missed.
