Based on quality of play in the 3 group games, I don't think Uruguay deserved to go through any more than Italy did. They were terrible against Costa Rica, decent against England but wouldn't have won that game without Suarez, and were pretty much just as tepid as Italy in the last match. Italy's play was a bit more understandable, as a draw would have seen them through. I was expecting more from Uruguay, as they needed a win. I was pretty much a neutral for this match, so it's not as if I was supporting Uruguay, and then decided not to based on Suarez's madness. :p Neither side has played particularly well so far, a fact made plainly clear with the fact that Costa Rica finished the group unbeaten.

That's fair enough considering how they reached this scenario. Both teams were equal coming into the match with poor performances against Costa Rica and lackadaisical victories over England, so it was simply going to be the team that played the best that would go through. Despite neither team really kicking in, ultimately Uruguay established themselves as the better side today, and as a result, the second best team in the group.

It was a very close game, and I don't think Uruguay would have been in any way cheated had Italy grabbed a late goal. What's beyond any doubt though, is that both teams have been very disappointing in this world cup. Uruguay need to start playing a lot better if they're going to go far in the tournament, and now that it looks like Suarez will probably take no further part in it, it's going to be very difficult for them I think.

One more thing: Not only did the GREAT MUSICIAN bite his opponent, he also went down and pretended to be hurt. It is beyond disgraceful. It's not just lack of sportmanship, it's the complete anti-sportmanship.

Funnily enough, he behaved well for most of the Premier League season that just passed. The "old" Suarez only surfaced in the high-profile games towards the end of the season (City and Chelsea). I am actually surprised to see him do this now.

Yep, I think we can all agree that Suarez was disgraceful, and FIFA should, as Alan Shearer just said on the panel over here, "hammer him".

Oh, and Italy being defensive, is just Italy being Italy! :p

Deciding whether to watch Ivory Coast/Greece or Japan/Colombia... I think it will probably be the latter match. :)

As most matches involving Greece have been dull for the last 10+ years, I'll go with the latter and switch if things take a surprising turn.

Thank you! Now I get it! I dunno, it doesn't go...heiling and biting, biting and heiling, does it?

Just heard that Colombia's manager is only fielding 3 of the players which started against the Ivory Coast, which I think is no doubt due to the fact that Colombia are already through. I think I'll watch the first few minutes of Greece/Ivory Coast, and if it's boring, I'll switch. :P Hopefully with them needing the win, they'll be a bit more adventurous, I'll be surprised if they play well though!
