I'm not going to bother reading all the posts about last night because I guess there are loads and loads of them. I will say, however, that Germany play like Brazil are supposed to and Brazil play like Germany used to. The difference is that Germany do Brazil better then Brazil do Germany.

Hup Holland though!

Henk ten Cate (worked as assistant-trainer of Frank Rijkaard for Barcelona ; this duo let Messi make his debut in the first squad) knows the differences between Robben and Messi:

"Robben is much more a team player than Messi", "Robben also participates in the change from attack to defence and Messi doesn't.
"Also Robben is really part of the Dutch squad and Argentina is totally dependent on Messi. Actually: he is the team."

"Another difference is that dat Messi scores easier than Robben. That's partly because Messi has a free role and can do what he wants. But Robben excels and Messi not yet, although he stil was important in all matches. Argentina plays with a block of 6 men in the back and the other 4 fieldplayers can do what they want up front. That's their strength. "

Mark Jansen (Epica) on his FaceBook:
Yesterday Kittel (Germany) won a tourstage and in the evening the German team won the WC game. Now Boom (the Netherlands) wins... what does this mean for tonight????
:D

Despite Holland having scored plenty of goals in this tournament, they have had a quite defensive approach to games. Maybe highlighted by the fact that their highest-scoring game was the one where the opponent had the ball more and were expected to have more play. In games against presumably weaker opposition, their approach has often been to pass the ball around and try to tempt the opposition higher up, in order for Holland to take them on the counter.

The interesting twist here is that Argentina have so far appeared to be not very different from that. Defensively, they have been in control for most of the time (except short periods against Iran and Switzerland), but they have seemed to lack creativity up front. A shame, as they have more players than Messi who should be capable of creating something.

We can be facing a game where neither team will be comfortable with being the team who have the ball more, because they fear the counter-attacking capabilities of the opponents. I predict a low-scoring game, going to extra time.

I'm remembering the last time Holland and Argentina played, ending with the greatest goal ever...

Yep, I'm not going to bother reading them either. lol It's funny you should say that, because when Juninho was interviewed after the game over here, he said that the Germans were teaching the Brazilians a lesson in how to play football. It was also amazing when the Brazilian fans started "OLE!ing" when the Germans passed the ball to each other, and many of the Brazil fans actually applauded Schurrle's wonder goal which made it 7-0. :) Juninho was right, Germany gave Brazil a footballing lesson last night. Unbelievable result though, I couldn't believe what I was watching!

I seriously doubt tonight's game will be anywhere near as one-sided. :P Hope the Dutch can put Argentina away!

I feel the difference between the two teams are that both teams have great attacking power, but the Dutch hold a significant advantage in their defence. However, I'd argue Argentina are the better midfield squad, at least with Sneijder's current form.

That was a nasty punt.

The one against Sneijder? Or the one Martins Indi did on Messi directly afterwards? Both worthy of a yellow card, the one on Sneijder was an obvious one. By letting stuff like that pass without a booking, the ref is asking for trouble later in the match ...
