18th Studio Album discussion

Nicko had lots of trouble with the drum part. Kevin quantized it and surprised Nicko with the result. It's in the Making of AMLOAD documentary interviews.
Right, thanks. Haven't watched that since 2007 or so. Time to revisit the documentary!

Taking a look at the entire Maiden history all over the past 50 years: The band ALWAYS profited from ANY line up change in the past - and this even includes Blaze (though I don't like his vocals). I am sure Simon will be no exception here, and I am looking forward.
Let's see, but yeah, that's generally true. More or less and in some ways. Ofc, not for the critics. Simon is curious in the studio with a band like Maiden, he can play different styles.

Nicko's situation (although studio is not like a tour) may be one of the reasons why (for now) we think they have no desire to record another album. But I remain optimistic, especially after his latest interview, in which they hide his answers on this matter.

Will Maiden change their live way of recording albums now? Dunno, but who knows, they changed the drummer after so long.
Nicko playing just a couple of easier songs (like Writing)? Possible, but it would be odd and it depends on whether he wants to. I think he will. He should be able to maintain fast tempo and steady/solid groove (powerful enough hits, good drum parts?), right? Or? Maiden can/to use ''studio magic'' for his takes? Not that sure. But I think Maiden can benefit (to say) from some studio magic now. Why not. The recordings will be longer, will they want this?
Recording an album more-mid tempo than the latest one wouldn't be good. Now, they should record with Nicko soon, when he is still in touring shape, and the age factor. It's realistic, right? The band want to play with him in the studio.

Simon is a live member, so idk about recording, but he would be the choice (after they see the tour with him). I really don't know why Maiden don't want to hurry up with the new material like all other bands.

Nicko to still write/arrange drum parts and give ideas... who knows, but he will want to play them I feel.

Kevin will be used for the production, no doubt.
if there is an album. I think nicko will be there if he wants. Recording an album is not playing 15 songs in a row every 3 days. And yes they record drums in a different way. But lets see what happens to nicko. Now he is not ok. He can play the drums for fun

Wouldn't it be an unpleasant role for Nicko to play 1-2 songs on the album that are easier, while another drummer, because he's better at least at this point, takes over the rest?
I agree and I don't think that will be the case. I believe he will play on all the songs when they record the new album. With decent amount of time for rehearsal/exercise, he can pull it off. I also believe Nicko would have retired completely if he thought he could not play in the studio. However, it was highlighted specifically that he was only retiring from playing live with the band.

Good argument. I also think Nicko would like to play on all songs (simplified drum parts? let's see), but maybe not, who knows. And would the band want to extend their time in the studio? Regardless of the studio work, still playing live the odd solo gig is important for him and his shape. The fact that it was specifically said that he is only retiring from playing live gives me hope, but he needs to work and practice in the studio. With enough rehearsals/exercises, let's hope he will be able to do it. Likely no certain plans for now, but I think they've already talked with him about the possible recording of a new album. The next logical step in the band's career and with a new (live) lineup.

Btw his drumming in last album was great. I love strategos drums

If they were to go back to recording everything by chunks, instead of "live", Nicko could easily bust out some great performances. Definitely better and more complex than his drumming on VXI for example. Being able to repeat every section as often as you want, as well as taking breaks whenever necessary, makes this far more realistic. And given that he won't tour with Maiden anymore and we won't have to/be able to compare the studio to the live version, this concern becomes a non-issue as well.
