I was lucky enough to witness it, and remember the time when fabulous albums were being released at a mind-blowing rate. Black Metal was suddenly no longer a narrow strip in the spectrum of metal, it was rapidly becoming so varied it was actually broader than metal itself.

When will you get to the church burnings Magnus? The fun stuff.

Church burnings were isolated acts whose importance in the lore of black metal is greatly overstated by people unfamiliar with black metal and/or people looking for sensationalism. It doesn't surprise me that Magnus dismisses them as irrelevant.
