Is there any recent evidence that Steve still has this ‘must be British’ rule?
(It’s not something you couldn’t change your mind about, after all.)

Most people, as in casual fans, and general metal fans, don't care who drums for Iron Maiden. They care about who sings for Maiden, Iron Maiden as a collective and how many classic songs they play. So yeah, a review that gives Simon any time of the day beyond simple recognition and stock comments is a fringe review.

I'd go beyond and say that for the general public Steve and Bruce are the core of Maiden. The vast majority of the audience (and this even includes some fans) don't truly know who does what within the band. And lineup changes can be pretty crazy. There's some people hating on Jan since 1990.

And, to be fair, Bruce and Steve *are* responsible for like two thirds of what you hear on their records.
 
The steadier to slow song tempos (as I heard them live in 2025) surprised me the most. One reddit poster jokes about Simon's drumming: 'I felt the same when I saw them in Manchester. The guy plays like he's in ACDC'.
While I wouldn't go that far, the tempos have definitely slowed down. I assume the band is telling Simon that's what they want, rather than it being his own volition? Perfectly reasonable in the twilight years I guess.

Nono, the new guy, who by the looks of it is an employee, is running the show and everybody else have to adapt to his preferred tempos. Or so the legend says. :D

It could be, but this is not 100% since bruce seems to be always with higher pace in his singing. It can also be bruce's fault tho, or both things.

Well, Bruce has had severe timing issues for years at this point. During LOTB 2022 RTTH was the biggest offender. On some shows he was off by an entire measure. It was pretty rough.

Yes, but that mostly happens when he is on the platforms behind the stage and on the side ramps. The issue has been less severe on the main part of the stage, thanks to additional monitoring, side fills and Adrian's death stare.

I went through reviews of the event itself (in Hannover), and most of them were from casual fans. The change in drummers was definitely mentioned (perhaps surprisingly), but people wrote things like, “The new guy is doing a good job.”
