RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

I hope they bring back Powerslave. It is mainly in a lower register for Bruce and the song is heavy as hell. Along with Infinite Dreams and Phantom, it was the highlight of the show.
I agree. Most of Bruce-written or co-written songs are usually much easier to sing for him. Revelations, Children Of The Damned, Powerslave, etc. Even RTTH for that matter (which is a co-write really, as is COTD for that matter). Adrian's songs also. He nailed Stranger in 2023/24 and I hope they bring that one back. He is also quite consistent with Wasted Years, but during RFYL he is something suffering from aces strugleness.

Steve on the other hand was always following the riffs with melodies and diction which made some songs borderline impossible to sing and makes them even more difficult in the late autumn of their career. Songs like Trooper and Hallowed are borderline insane. Especially the verses. Also the most ridiculous of them, Heaven Can Wait, especially when played during early tours when the verses went:

Cantunderstandwhatishappeningtome
Thisisntrealthisisonlyadream
ButIneverhavefelt, no, Ineverhavefeltthiswaybefore

etc.

That said, Steve also has also written some great vocal lines. Infinite Dreams for example. Seventh Son (minus the choruses) too. For The Greater Good Of God too.

I still find it weird that they use Ides of March as an intro, and then the show begins with another intro to Murders in the Rue Morgue as opposed to going right into Wrathchild. That's nearly a solid Satellite 15's worth of intros before the band shows up on stage.

I will FINALLY be seeing this show tomorrow. It feels like ages ago I took out a mortgage to buy tickets. Weather is supposed to be really nice and it's a Friday. I cannot wait to experience this tour in person!

The 1981 tours began with Wrathchild, but the 1982 ones had Murders as the first song. I guess they went with the latter as their image of "classic" Maiden.

It is genius for elderly musicians - if you add in Doctor Doctor then you have nearly 10 minutes of a 'show' played through the PA entertaining the crowd with no band on stage!

Great show tonight in Charlotte. Lots of rain, I probably won’t be dry for a week LOL. I’ll post a real review tomorrow
Alas I decided not to make the trek to Charlotte. Had to get some work done on the car and a couple tires this week. If I went I would have gotten a Lawn Ticket. Avoided the rain I guess. Hated to miss it though. Glad to hear it was a great show!

Fantastic show in Charlotte.

Not super familiar with Megadeath's catalog, but they put on a great show, and Mustaine seemed to really love the crowd

Lot of great crowd interaction, seemed to make Bruce and the boys really happy. He complimented the crowd a bunch, and you could see he was stoked to have a good crowd despite the rain.

Eddie's Dive Bar was a really cool meet-up spot. Glad I went considering the rain kept any pre-show or intermission mingling to a minimum. Also, to some of my fellow Charlotte lads, learn to aim when you piss. The mens room was thoroughly soaked in water (understandable), and piss (not so understandable). Sound mix got better as the show went on for sure, but started off solid. Daves guitar needed some dialing in and the drums.

Pleasently surprised how much Adrian roamed around and seemed to be having an absolute blast.

Bruce sounded genuinely fantastic. He surprised me, I wasnt expecting such a good performance on some of the harder songs. Obviously excluding Aces High. But Bruce still did his work to make it a fun one. There was one flub, couldnt tell if it was Bruce or Simon's fault, but it took Bruce a second to get back on track with 7S07S

We got plenty of real proper air-raid screams. Cracking the PA style. Kicked ass

TLDR, it was great even with the downpour.
I didn’t think I would get to see this show.

Before I start this review, I need to express gratitude to the people who made it possible for me to go. Finances have been a bit tight lately (life happens, nothing too serious thankfully.) Last time I flew to Charlotte for a show, I made real friends. These friends, a father and son, offered me a completely free ticket to the show, “if you can get here!” Wow. I still can’t believe they made such a kind, generous offer. This, plus my father letting me use his extensive hotel points made this a much more budget friendly trip. I just have to express this gratitude to my friends and family again before the rest of the review.

Eddie’s Dive Bar was fun. I do wish they’d done what AC/DC did with their popups and displayed some cool memorabilia and props though.

Megadeth was really good. I’m not super into them, but their performance was solid. I enjoyed the few songs of theirs I know.

This story can’t be told without the rain. It started raining before Megadeth, and I foolishly didn’t think to buy a cheap poncho before the show. An overpriced, thin poncho from the venue was my only solution. There was a brief reprieve midway through Megadeth, but it slowly returned as Maiden’s crew set up. By the time we reached Doctor Doctor, it was absolutely pouring. Maiden’s performance of the first few songs made the rain bearable. By the time ROTAM started, ironically and thankfully the rain had stopped.

This was my sixth Maiden show, but my first time seeing Simon with the band. My musician ears were definitely focused on him through a lot of the night. I’ve seen plenty of YouTube videos of this tour, but in person is different. I feel like he played the Clive songs more Clive-ish, and I was really impressed by his playing on the Nicko songs, with one exception. Powerslave was the one song that made me think “yeah, he’s not Nicko.” It wasn’t bad, his playing just had a different feel on that particular song. It didn’t make me not enjoy the song at all. So, as a whole I was impressed and glad he’s in the band and able to keep it going.

Bruce was really great most of the night. I thought he did really well on Aces High, and I was expecting it to not be the best. I think the moral of the story is you can’t fully trust the YouTube videos. The rest of the encore was great.

He did seriously screw up the first chorus of Seventh Son. I kept thinking “Bruce, stop for just a moment so you can follow the guitar melody” and he took until the “ohs” to do that. He went to a different spot on the walkway for the second chorus and it was better. He needs a monitor near the front of the stage. Or in ears. Anyway otherwise I thought he was nearly flawless the whole night.

All the guitar players and Steve were really good. Dave did Dave things, and Adrian improvised a little more than I expected. It’s unfortunate that Janick doesn’t get to do much this setlist, but the extra texture of that third guitar was great through a lot of the night. As for his rare solos, I particularly liked his solo on Phantom.

The screens were a cool change, but I did not care for the big Eddie on the screen during Iron Maiden. It didn’t have the same visual impact as the inflatable. I don’t know if they ever go back to the drapes, but I do hope they bring back the big Eddie.

Having only been a fan since 2016, the greatest hits nature of it all was nice because I’ve never seen them play Phantom, Rime, and Murders. All in all, this was a great show, a great trip, and a great night. I’m glad to see Maiden still firing on all cylinders and performing at such a high level. Can’t wait for the next tour!
