Lets be honest the only person who would turn up would be Dennis Stratton and only if they paid for his airfare..... the band doesn't give a toss, quite rightly in my opinion. Bruce as usual is right!

You’re right, I think Dennis Stratton is the only one who gives a shit about this.

Funny thing is, nothing against Dennis but it could have been anyone else on the debut album and it would still sound exactly the same. He was just a bloke in the right place at the right time. No writing credits and more like a session player.

The fact that Blaze isn’t part of the nomination is a proper crime. He was on 2 albums and plenty of writing credits and still songs he was involved in being played by the band.

Agree re Blaze. I listen to the X factor and Virtual XI occasionally they have aged better than alot of metal from that era. No Bruce though!

So in the end, it seems there was quite a bit of truth to the rumors about Dave wanting to hang it up-and there’s a strong possibility that the idea is still on his mind.

From Blabbermouth.net:

"Nicko was also asked about recent rumors that Murray was contemplating retirement from MAIDEN. The drummer said: "Well, yeah. We've all been away from our families, and David's family expanded, and Tasha, his daughter, had a little baby, baby boy, I believe. And he's a granddad. And he's ensconced himself in Maui with his wife, Tamar. And I talk to him about longevity and stuff and how physically demanding it is for us playing our kind of music — I think for anybody at our age playing any kind of music [is demanding], to be honest. [Laughs] Some are a little easier than others. I mean, we are high octane, from start to finish.

Nicko continued: "So, I would probably say that, in my opinion, I think that this is not likely to be the end, but I think if they do go carry on — I know 2027 is a year off for 'em, and that's okay. That's all great. That's like sitting back for a year and going, 'Oh, breathing time. Back to family.' But that's another year older. I mean, Harry [Steve Harris] will be 71. That's okay. I mean, I was 72 [after] I had my stroke … so age catches everybody up. Father time, he's gonna get you in the end. I just think with Davey, he's got more reason to wanna be at home, perhaps. I haven't spoken to him in a couple of years about ideas of retiring. … But, yeah, everybody's got their own thoughts about that, and I can't really speak for anybody else. But I made my decision, and I've been happy about that. I do miss being on stage, looking out and seeing our wonderful fans that we have around the world. I miss that. I miss my little walks with Janick [Gers, MAIDEN guitarist] or on my own and meeting in a coffee shop during our days off or days of the show. I do miss that. I don't miss the travel and living out of a suitcase. That I do not [miss]."

Nicko spoke surprisingly freely here—I wasn't expecting him to mention that Dave, notoriously very private, is now a grandad.

But I mean, it was in the air. Dave'll be 70 in 10 months—Steve in 10 days—and Adrian and Janick are not kids either. Coolest grandads in the world, but still grandads.

PS—I don't live in HI, I've never been there, I'll probably never be, but through a chain of contacts I've been sent this a couple of days ago:

Imua Family Services has announced a significant step forward in its $10 million Imua Discovery Garden Capital Campaign with a $500,000 contribution from Dave and Tamar Murray and the Murray ‘ohana. The gift will support the development of the Imua Inclusion Preschool, part of a new nature-based early learning campus planned for the organization’s six-acre Wailuku property.
("'ohana" means "family" in Hawaiian, in an extended sense).

Some curious info from Nicko:

It seems that the 3rd leg of LOTB and TFP tours weren't originally planned, it would have been SJ album tour for over 2 years. Maybe playing the whole album at first.

He said this is not likely the end, but everyone is catching up his age. The year off is good for them. He thinks with Dave, he probably has more reason to wanna be at home, but he hasn't talked with him about retirement in a couple of years. So it's safe to say Dave probably had those thoughts, but maybe he has changed his mind. And maybe this break is needed for him/them. Let's hope so, the current tour feels like a last (big) one, but no Reunion era songs...

So I think the idea I had (in the 18th Studio Album discussion thread) wasn't so wrong.
Dave was having a crisis, but it can't be that acute if Nicko hasn't talked to him about it in a long time.

I think you were spot on. He had this crisis, but if he were thinking about it now, he would have talked to Nicko about his experience in retirement.

Yes, Nicko is very open here. But isn't it also a bit risky to say that he wants to be on the next album? If he is not, then everyone will know that the others (or Steve) didn't want him.

That's really not surprising. LOTB 22 was a contractual obligation. There was a lot of speculation of a SIT revisit separate from Senjutsu, and covid forcing them to combine stuff. On one hand it would've been cool to see what a proper Senjutsu album tour would've looked like, but TFP had such an interesting setlist that I'm fine with how things played out.

One of the weirdest and coolest tour they have made

You’ve got to love Nicko. He has always leaked more than the Titanic, but now that he is no longer under gagging orders from Rod, interviews with him provide a wealth of interesting bits about the band.

Yeah, I was also thinking of posting something along the lines that now we’ve got an insider who’s probably more willing than ever to spill the beans, since he’s a bit more on the outside of Iron Maiden these days. I’d say Rod is probably fuming and ringing his phone nonstop for the next few days, ha.
