USA Politics

Seems it doesn't sink in with Agent Orange that the Norwegian government does not control the Nobel Peace Prize committee. With him basically blaming our Prime Minister for "Norway" not giving him the prize (which he, of course, deserves more than anyone else in world history) he is showing the exact same mindset that Xi Jinping & co did after the prize was awarded to Liu Xiaobo in 2010.

Is it so difficult for him to imagine that the President (or Prime Minister, or King or whoever leads the government) does not make all decisions, like he wants to do himself?

The worst thing is that he is surrounded by people who will not tell him he's wrong and out of order, but instead applaud him and spur him on (pun intended btw) to double down. As we see with the Greenland issue where people around him, and also a member of Congress (with his Greenland Annexation Act) compete for the "who can please Dear Leader's ego the most" award.

He expects the government to exert pressure over the commitee (which, to be fair, mainly consists of politicians).

Orange man may be surrounded by sycophants but when he launched his disastrous 'Liberation Day' tariffs, the market responded in a sharply negative fashion. In fact, many think that this market crash and in particularly the selling off of US bonds by Japanese funds caused Trump to U-turn on this policy, leading to the coining of the 'TACO' phrase. A similar reaction could be the only thing that will deter him from the Greenland tariffs that he seems intent on imposing, for now.

A rhetorical question to all forum members who voted for Trump:
Would you vote for this man again now?

I understand that some progressive Democrats can be wacko and that they clearly overreached with gender ideology—although I’m not even sure how real this problem actually was in your country, and how much of it was amplified by the media.

I understand that immigration needed to be controlled and contained. But what ICE is doing now is downright awful. I’ve seen that local police can’t even prosecute ICE officers after the recent shooting because they’re immune. That’s complete nonsense. Whenever someone holds power, there’s always a serious risk of abuse—and local authorities must have the ability to prosecute such people. If not, sooner or later you, the ones who voted for Trump, may find yourselves on the receiving end. That’s just basic logic.

It’s also clear that so far Trump isn’t aiming to improve your financial lives. On the contrary, he’s enriching himself and his inner circle. How do you feel about that? Don’t you feel betrayed?

Have you noticed how overactive Trump is in foreign policy? I can tell you: this is how aspiring dictators behave. Even putin acted this way in his early years. Solving domestic problems and improving citizens’ lives is hard—it requires real work and unpopular decisions. But being “tough” abroad produces fast, visible, so-called results.
“I’ll kick Venezuela’s ass, then Cuba’s, then annex Greenland,” etc.

At first, I get why this may look impressive to you as Trump voters. You see a decisive man of action. But ideally, such a president should respect European partners and long-standing alliances. Do you really not see that Trump respects only dictators—putin, the North Korean lunatic, and China’s Xi? Are you okay with that? Or do you simply not care?

Do you want your country to remain democratic, or to descend into authoritarian madness?

If you’re fine with the current course, you should understand one thing: authoritarian regimes eventually start devouring even their own supporters.

Do you also realize that this path increases the risk of internal unrest in the U.S.? Do you really dream of a civil war? I seriously doubt your life would be better than it was under Democratic rule.

Don’t you see that Trump conducts politics like a mafia boss? Maybe not the worst one—but the style is unmistakable: blackmail and extortion.

The fact that Trump smilingly accepted Machado’s Nobel Peace Prize may seem minor or even go unnoticed—but I urge you to look closely. He accepted a prize that wasn’t awarded to him and that he didn’t earn. That alone speaks volumes. He’s perfectly fine taking what doesn’t belong to him. This is a man born with a golden spoon, someone who believes he must get whatever he wants, by any means necessary.

He resembles that spoiled rich kid you see in movies—the one who stomps his feet and screams, “I want that shiny new toy!”, even if it means taking it from a poorer child. In reality, this man appears emotionally stunted—almost idiotic. Now he’s publishing private correspondence with the Norwegian minister, Macron, and others: “You didn’t give me my shiny medal, so now I’ll be a bad boy.”

Do you think this is normal? Is this high diplomacy? Or does it look more like the behavior of a mob boss?

I understand that you may feel indifferent to foreign policy because your own life matters most to you. But even then, you can’t ignore what this behavior reveals about Trump’s character. And ask yourself: if this “tough guy” treats others like this, how do you think he’ll treat you? Will he care about your struggles? I think by now you already know the answer. If not—bad news for you.

Trump has already joked about canceling elections. Can reasonable politicians even float such unconstitutional ideas? And what if one day it stops being a joke and he actually tries to take away your right to vote? Would you really be fine with that?

I know this may sound arrogant, but I strongly suggest voting in the midterms for reasonable, near-center candidates—left or right. Because right now, the Republican Party has gone completely off the rails. Yes, Democrats have their progressive lunatics—but Republicans have turned into Trump’s lapdogs, increasingly flirting with outright fascism.

You may not care about Trump’s foreign policy, but imagine this: he annexes Greenland. If Europe still has any backbone left, it will respond with tariffs and restrictions on U.S. companies. How do you think that will affect your life? Will prices go down—or up? If you work in an affected industry, you might even lose your job. How great would that be? The joke would be on you.

If you don’t care about politics, that doesn’t mean politics won’t care about you. It will. And if you keep voting for lunatics, one day you may wake up in a madhouse, a jail, or under a bridge.

Vote for reasonable, normal men and women. People who don’t want to defund the police or push absurd ideological experiments on one side—and who don’t support openly authoritarian or neo-Nazi ideas on the other. If someone is decent, hardworking, and genuinely supportive of their community and country, what’s wrong with that?

Vote for those who actually do something meaningful—not for those who just talk nicely or look flashy on TikTok. Vote for people who may not be great at PR, but who have a real record of competent work.

Sorry if this sounds arrogant or preachy. These are simply my thoughts. In the end, the decision is yours—and you’ll be the one living with the consequences. (Hmm… and the rest of the world as well.)

Mainly ex politicians though. Members of the government or the parliament cannot be part of the committee. (Established practice since 1977 and put into law in 2017 according to the Committee's website).

Not that it would change anything if Trump knew that, of course. He would still act like our Prime Minister could just tell them who should get the prize, because that's how governments should work in his world.

But if this was the worst thing Trump was doing, this thread wouldn't be half as long ... the man is either nuts or just acting like it, and a fair share of the US electorate still applaud it.
