Exactly, Metal (in general) is not about being accessible, it's being AGAINST the mainstream mentality. That is it!Genius and made me laugh!
Really well written post, absolutely on the money. It’s another of the reasons why I like Maiden too.

More than 50k sold would surprise me.Will they be able to fill at least half of the space?
My fear as well, since Maiden saw the London Stadium numbers and thought, 'great lets top that!', but they may not succeed.More than 50k sold would surprise me.
London this year was the big celebration in my opinion. Or should have been.
But all we got was Eddie in a West Ham-shirt and a matchday programme.
I think the same, but 50k should be OK, this place is enormous (125K or so).My fear as well, since Maiden saw the London Stadium numbers and thought, 'great lets top that!', but they may not succeed.
The documentary hype will boost some sales early next year, that's my expectation.
Metallica are a mainstream band, they get radio play every once and a while and have had their songs in lots of movies/tv etc. Their music is broadcast to more people. Iron Maiden don't do that, its what makes them so great. Maiden are a touring/live band and they always have been. If you compare modern Metallica's live performance's to modern maiden, the quality is not even close to being the same. Also without Maiden there wouldn't have been Metallica sooo.Exactly. Maiden do what they do and are really successful at doing that. But to think they are as big as Metallica is pure FANtasy.
As I have said in previous posts this is the closest that Maiden! has ever performed to my house however the price, lack of change in the set list and general rise in prices has made me think twice about it. If there is a price reduction closer to the date, I might consider it. However, I can’t really justify spending £150+ pounds on a show that I’ve already seen.I'd be surprised if they manage 35k at Knebworth at this rate and it'd serve them right, frankly. Incredible arrogance to charge insane prices for a show in the middle of nowhere with such lacklustre support.
Honestly, the band with Maiden status could announce a massive FREE show in the UK just to immortalize the 50th Anniversary experience. I know - the money matters, the costs would be enormous even for them, but - Oh my God - just once in their career. The 50th Anniversary should be something special for their fans and a kind of thank-you for their unstoppable support. As I have said in previous posts this is the closest that Maiden! has ever performed to my house however the price, lack of change in the set list and general rise in prices has made me think twice about it. I’m not being negative, because I really hope that the people who go to the show have a great time. These are just my thoughts.
My friends and I are genuinely considering going to see The Offspring and Dropkick Murphys at Crystal Palace a month earlier for about £80 a ticket. I know they are not as big as Iron Maiden but that pricing is more in line with what I think should be charged for events like this.
I am not sure there exists a worse deal than the Knebworth VIP thing.
The whole Knebworth show seems so bad even people on the FC are complaining.

), I wouldn't pay any extra for it to be honest, but it's not aimed at me, it's aimed at people who fly business class on planes. If it was available for cheap then too many people would do it which would defeat the purpose.Agreed, the lineup is REALLY poor.Incredible arrogance to charge insane prices for a show in the middle of nowhere with such lacklustre support.

Maiden could realistically ask almost any rock/metal band in the world and they would most likely say yes.
I think the supports was more of a financial decision.
Yes, but at the same time Rod has been going on about making Trooper VIP affordable for fans. And I think people going to Knebworth will start to feel shortchanged with the special things costing additional silly money. The whole point of VIP is so people with too much money can feel special by paying over the odds for something. It's not aimed at you.
I said it on the FC forum, I got a freebie VIP at Hellfest a couple of years ago, and it's really nothing for anybody to feel their missing out on. Food and drink with a bit shorter queues, an area to chillax for a bit with less people and a bit of shade (probably less of an issue in the UK), I wouldn't pay any extra for it to be honest, but it's not aimed at me, it's aimed at people who fly business class on planes. If it was available for cheap then too many people would do it which would defeat the purpose.
It's not really a lineup that makes it feel very special is it. Ironically I think having a band like Priest would have given this a bit of a boost and made it more interesting. In what sense? I know Maiden do not charge support bands for the privilege of playing unlike other big names, but they surely should have been able to put together a stronger line-up with similar costs.
I wonder if they were hoping that The Darkness would help them shift a good number of tickets to casual fans, but with them announcing a headline arena tour this week, I am not sure that is a possibility anymore.
