THIS IS A POWER RANKING GAME. The albums are arranged in the poll from best to worst, with the top seeded album being the top ranked album. I seeded the albums based on two facts: how many lists it appeared on, and my general understanding of this board's tastes after being here for 15 years. This way we don't have to spend multiple rounds moving an album like Brave New World to the top, it's already there unless voters decide to knock it off the top spot.

Essential Questions:
How do you knock albums off the top spot? If you feel like an album is ranked too low, vote for that album. Any album that receives a significant plurality of votes (this number will be fluid and based on participation) will move up a slot. If you like the list as is, vote for the top album.

How often does this update? I will look at the numbers roughly every 24 hours and move albums accordingly. You can vote for as many albums as you want and you can vote whenever the poll resets. After a week, I will close the poll and we will move on to the next year. This will take us to mid December with the finals wrapping up right at the new year.

How were albums selected? I would say 95% of the albums that will appear in this game were sourced from Maidenfans lists. Every album that was submitted will appear in the game. For years that have a lot of duplicates (2000 being one), I filled in the list with other acclaimed albums. Many years surprisingly had close to all unique albums, with 2014, 2020, and 2023 having only one duplicate each. No year featured an entirely unique list of albums. No Maidenfans nominated albums were seeded lower than an album I pulled from an outside source.

Do I need to listen to every album here? Not necessarily, but I would highly encourage it! You have a week to vote and the voting will update every day (so you can vote every day or you can vote once a week or whatever you want). Everybody has unlimited votes. I think you will get more out of this game if you listen to the albums you're not familiar with and see if you can find any new favorites.

My favorite album isn't here! You had 7 months to send me a list!!!

I want to thank everybody who participated. I received 17 lists and 250+ albums! Most years had quite a variety of material and it made me appreciate the diversity of taste around here. I'm really excited to dig into each list I got and I am going to do my best to listen to every album. With that being said, let's get started with...

Programming Notes - To keep this on schedule to finish before the new year, I am going to double up on some years. The first of these will be next week, so be ready for 2011 and 2012 to be running simultaneously!

Lots of heavy hitters here in 2010. This is a year that I heavily associate with Maidenfans because of how big a deal The Final Frontier was here. You could argue that later albums are more popular or maybe even sold better, but nothing will ever top the insanity that was the TFF leak thread. Maiden is 2 for 3 in this game so far and I think this one is Maiden's to lose. There isn't a clear alternative and while there are some very good albums here, I doubt any is going to be competitive with Maiden on a Maiden forum.

No At the edge of time?

I voted The wicked symphony, Coat of arms and Frozen tears of angels. Another year with some good albums, but not any superb stuff.

Only have Final Frontier and Promise and Terror, I like Promise and Terror a lot it was the only Blaze album that really clicked with me after Jeff Singer left, when he followed it up with losing another band and putting out that Diamond Darrell shite I never even checked out the rest of the album, or anything else, after that.

 At the Edge of Time should be here in the 2nd seed I just forgot to include it. I can't slot it in without resetting the votes so I will just bring it back in the second round and leave it in the second seed. This means that, as it currently stands, Final Frontier will drop to #3. :o

Here are my detailed thoughts on Mekong Delta’s Wanderer On The Edge Of Time, which was my nominee for this year. I’ll offer some brief comments here, too.

This is a concept album that’s best consumed as a whole piece, rather than as a collection of songs. It goes through a number of stylistic changes which can seem chaotic at first, but are ultimately anchored through the time traveling story and some recurring musical themes. It may take a few spins to fully sink in, but it’s totally worth the time investment — this is one of my very favorite albums from the entire decade of the 2010’s, and there’s nothing else quite like it. That’s why I also nominated it for the GMAC back in the day, where it actually held its ground for a few rounds.

Please give it a listen before you vote! The cover art below is also a link to the album. Enjoy!

  • The Final Frontier - easy vote. Probably my least favorite Reunion album, but it's still full of great and interesting songs. An album with a different feel and is the best of the bunch. No pure weak songs.
  • Coat Of Arms - again it's hard not to enjoy their style. You can like every song.
  • Promise And Terror - this speed metal and heavier style is always great. Blaze has a specific songwriting style that brings the anthemic parts infront, so it's good. Almost all the songs work and are impactful! Which is not easy.
  • Halford IV: Made Of Metal - I forgot how cool this album is. The songwriting for the majority is strong and the riffing is great. They deliver, old school. Rob with some pretty good ideas too. Underrated album - with imo 2/3 fillers from 14 songs. The first few songs are highlights.
  • The Wicked Symphony - Avantasia are class. Almost no fillers and some of the ideas are just instant winners.

The next in line are: Crystal Viper deserve a mention for their classic sound, Rhapsody Of Fire are always interesting and cool, and then Alter Bridge I guess. Seventh Wonder are a nice surprise. I easily can vote for them, but I think my other votes are enough and I like them more.

Anyone who hasn't listened to The Great Escape should really do so, especially any prog fans or fans of incredible vocalists (and musicians). It's a masterpiece.
