* - Very hard to pick. HCW - because of poorely written lyrics from Bruce's standpoint, CIPWM - because I need to choose one from SSOASS, The Menecenary - because the lyrics are kinda shit, WTRRD - because of the dragging chorus.

1. Charlotte The Harlot
2. Another Life
3. Invaders
4. Sun and Steel
5. The Duellists
6. Déjà Vu
7. The Prophecy
8. Mother Russia
9. Childhood's End
10. Blood On The World's Hands
11. Futureal
12. The Mercenary
13. Age Of Innocence
14. Different World
15. Isle Of Avalon
16. The Man of Sorrows

Surprised to see Avalon appear quite often, I think both parts of the chorus are brillaint and I think I just seem to like TFF a lot more than most in general.
Also, if Futureal is the worst song on Virtual XI, I think I need to give the album a listen.

  15. The Final Frontier - "Isle of Avalon"
  16. The Book of Souls - "The Man of Sorrows"

I remember feeling very disappointed when I first heard it (and it hasn't improved), both musically and vocally: it is Maiden-by-numbers, I find the riff and solos uninteresting (and even off tune at one moment) but the worst is how the way the lyrics have been shoe-horned in the verses AND in the chorus and how Nicko clearly didn't give a damn while recording his parts. "Futureal" is clearly below Maiden's standards, in my opinion, and not much better than what an amateur band would record after saying "let's write a parodic Maiden song". And it is a pity, because the title is not that bad and, I think, a better pun than the previous one (PEN#1). It is not that I don't like the song (I like Iron Maiden, remember? :D ) but this song in particular really doesn't stand analysis.

I know this is eternal topic amongst fans and I understand that some fans just can't stand Blaze, but I'd say that especially many songs from The X-Factor are much more "real Maiden" (closer to the quality and style of albums like Seventh Son and so) than a lot stuff from the early 90's albums, as good as they can also be. I just think that The X-Factor has a lot great songwriting efforts in it. :)

Then again, I do understand that it doesn't feel quite right to everyone.

My thoughts exactly! When I saw the topic I knew there would be a few 'The X Factor and Virtual XI blablabla..". The Clansman and Sign of The Cross are always featured high on rankings and on best of records and are also the first songs I heard by the band.

Virtual XI - the obvious one
Brave New World - Blood Brothers
Dance of Dearth - New Frontier

I get so angry reading what some of y'all are saying are the worst songs on their respective album :)

Iron Maiden - Charlotte the Harlot
Killers - Drifter
Number of the Beast - Gangland
Piece of Mind - Quest for Fire
Powerslave - Flash of the Blade
Somewhere in Time - Heaven Can Wait
Seventh Son - The Prophecy
No Prayer for the Dying - Hooks in You
Fear of the Dark - Alot (But I'll pick Weekend Warrior)
X Factor - 2 A.M.
Virtual XI - The Educated Fool (The edited version of TAATG ain't bad)
Brave New World - The Nomad
Dance of Dearth - New Frontier
A Matter of Life and Death - Ummm none? I guess Different World if I had to pick.
Final Frontier - El Dorado (Funny. I don't consider this album all that great but can't pick a weakest link)
Book of Souls - Death or Glory

I actually like a bunch of these songs. Some of them are listed simply because I’m burnt out on them:

1. Iron Maiden
2. Genghis Khan
3. Gangland
4. The Trooper
5. Back In The Village
6. Sea Of Madness
7. The Clairvoyant
8. Public Enema Number One (terrible title)
9. Fear Of The Dark
10. Fortunes Of War
11. Don’t Look Into...
12. The Fallen Angel
13. Face in the Sand
14. Different World
15. El Dorado (hate this one)
15. Speed Of Light (rubbish riff)

1. Iron Maiden - never thought it was awesome, much more of a show moment than a great song
2. The Ides of March - really hard choice but it's just a bit plain and not much more than an intro
3. Gangland - easy call, still a decent song
4. Quest For Fire - not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be but still, by far, the weakest on the album
5. Los'fer Words (Big 'Orra) - never really been much of a fan of this one
6. Heaven Can Wait - solely because of the chorus
7. Can I Play With Madness - still love it but it's the weakest moment on a pretty close to perfect album
8. Hooks in You - ok riffs and stuff, horrible lyrics and vocals
9. Weekend Warrior - their 2nd worst song in the catalog, no real redeeming factors at all
10. Look for the Truth - off key singing, never liked this one, only blemish on an otherwise amazing album
11. The Angel and the Gambler - worst Maiden song of them all
12. Dream of Mirrors - never cared for this one much, too much VXI repetition and just does not warrant the length
13. Gates of Tomorrow - not bad just really bland and not great
14. The Pilgrim - this was probably the toughest for me as the whole album is so good, just always has been my least fav of the bunch
15. Mother of Mercy - can't excuse rhyming of with of and the super obvious copy/paste of the vocals
16. When The River Runs Deep - never took to this much, it's a rocker for sure but just lacks the extra gear and oompf of the other rockers on TBOS

I feel the same (cf my post a little above): it doesn't suit Maiden to talk about anus, in their songs at least! ;)

Speak about it (ass): it seems a lot of the references were gathered on NPFTD ("Holy Smoke" -"still smell cleaner than the shit you're in-, "PEN1" and "The Assassin"). Can you remember more?
