It was really awesome how Anika handled that part. I mean, she nailed it. I wouldn't necessarily have guessed it beforehand, but once I saw and heard footage from a few shows, I was amazed.
By comparison, while Simon played some parts okay-ish, it still left me wondering what it could have sounded like with someone like Anika. Too bad Steve took the short route here... I have respect for Steve & co., but some of these weird decisions could prove to be injurious.

Anika's energy has injected new life into Rush. Maiden with Simon, by comparison, sound like they're on life support.
 
I agree somewhat with the Rush comparison, but the differences are clear. Rush are two really old guys who need a drummer to drive them and who need someone who in no way could be compared to Neil Peart. Rush was also coming back after over a decade of dormancy.

Maiden is five slightly less old guys being driven by the drummer, so it’s a more precarious musical construct overall. I can see why Steve picked Simon, as Maiden took no break and he probably saw it as an F1 pit stop, changing a key component while still on the move.

New users are coming back. Kurt ins't one of those, but he clearly wasn't interested in good faith discussion either, so good riddance. His account existed solely to talk shit about Simon. Also, you can click on someone's account to see if the account still exists, by the way.

Noting an interesting difference is one thing. But you wrote:

And that's conspiratorial thinking. Bruce and Nicko have talked about Simon in interviews. It's not like he is a complete taboo for Iron Maiden interviews. Steve gives fewer interviews than Bruce, so that plays a role as well. And Simon isn't an unknown quantity anymore either, this is his second year in the band. Most casual listeners don't care who is playing the drums, it's not really a hot button issue.

See above, but also, the demographics for Rush are a bit different than for Maiden + the situation is completely different. Neil Peart died and Rush was officially over. The band disbanded. But they came back, obviously with a new person behind the drums. And Rush is a trio, Simon/Nicko are 1/6th of the band. The circumstances between Rush and Maiden couldn't be any more different. So yeah, of course one of those bands is incredibly more likely to be asked about their drummer.

I already asked this, but it seems nobody has an answer? Is there any recent evidence that Steve still has the ‘British-only’ policy?

Yes, Rush were dormant for a long time, but that is why it makes me a bit sad when some people say that Maiden didn’t want a top drummer who would challenge their abilities. It is quite different with Rush, then.

Simon makes Iron Maiden sound like they're driving with the handbrake on. Nobody knows who choose to slow down the tempos.

And the IM members age excuse is weird, since the geddy/alex are older and looks like they didnt ask anika to slow down the tempos.

This, 100%. But it's also more than the slowness itself- there's a timidness to the band's sound now. Drum-centric sections of songs are often rocky, with tempos slowing down even further during major fills / transitions (where the energy should be maintained or even increased, depending on the song).

The transition into the solo section of Mariner is a great example of this. When Simon comes in with the groove (as Bruce screams "rain") it already feels too slow. Then when he transitions to the snare build + fill, he pulls the tempo back EVEN FURTHER. Makes the whole band sound like they're about to fall over backwards.

I dont mind much about fills, but theres something lacking since last year.

I'm not even talking about the content of the fills (which I have pretty strong feelings about...) just the fact that he can't even maintain a consistent tempo/energy during some of the most important transitions in songs
 
I am only a lowly fan not a musician or anything but i think Simon`s doing a great job. He`s allowed the band to continue and the 4 Maiden gigs i`ve seen over the last 15 months have all been fantastic for various reasons.

Long may it continue and roll on 2028.

No, it's that he replaced someone who intentionally drove the songs forward relentlessly with someone who sounds like he's just struggling to keep up.

Yup. Which also explains why some songs were played slower in the last decade while Nicko was still in the band.

This constant push from some here to blame Simon for something that literally happened YEARS before he joined the band is beyond ridiculous at this point. It's childish.
