News 18th Studio Album discussion

If I were to listen to either of those two albums from start to finish, I'd probably pick BNW, although I think DOD has higher peaks taken individually (Rainmaker, Montsegur, title track, Paschendale).

DOD probably has more "variegate" ideas but I would take one, maybe two tracks out of it, with the candidates being No More Lies and Gates of Tomorrow.

I'd say the high points on DOD are higher (Paschendale in particular), but BNW is more consistent.

EDIT: The stinkers on DOD (No More Lies in particular) stink more though.

I enjoyed their return to the theatrics and historical themes so much. It was also the confirmation that the reunion plan was for real. Five songs from the setlist were Dance Of Death tracks. And I love it when Maiden focuses on new material. All this, of course, is justifiable because I do like that record. To me, is the album that gave the band wheels to keep going over the hills and far away, bringing back themes from their past, but also new sonic qualities. Awful cover though!

Six, six, six, the number of tracks off DOD played for you and me.

Setlist could have featured more songs (the gig was merely 100 minutes long, definitely shorter than the GMETID shows), but the DOD songs were the highlights. Paschendale, Dance of Death and Journeyman were magnificent.

Nice gig. The car part at Vistalegre was very expensive though!
Journeyman is boring. ( un coñazo) in spanish

The second half of the album only have paschendale. The rest of the songs could be in a rank of the worst songs they ever recorded. ( in my opinon) .

Man, y'all are crazy, No More Lies is a 10/10, especially live. The only thing I could see being criticized is the chorus melody being the same each time, which Bruce changed live, so that's a non-issue. One of the few songs where we get a solo by each guitarist one after another after another, without any interruptions. And the song is dripping with atmosphere. So many singable guitar lines.

5/10. New frontier, gates of tomorrow, age of innocence journeyman and face in the sand 3/10 ?. My opinion. Those songs are at same level of the worst songs of IM history.

It’s my favourite Maiden. It’s got rockers, epics, great melodies and memorable hooks. What’s not to love? Ok, Age of Innocence is weaker. But I love the album.
New frontier is simple
Gates of tomorrow just a semi good chorus because when he sings gates of tomorrow cheassy
Face in the sand? The best example for a nonsense double drum. I love double drum but this is ridicoulus
Age of innocence? One of their worst
Journeyman cheesy again,boring and tucky?
So if those are the fillers monstegur ,no more lies are 5/10 and wildest dreams again a weak openner. For me their worst album in their catalogue

Not a fan of the lyrics in Age Of Innocence, but the music itself is awesome. It's pretty fun how it uses the James Bond chord progression once the distorted guitars kick in.

I respect your opinion, but I have to massively disagree with you. I’m not sure how anyone can listen to Senjutsu and say how that is a superior album to Dance of Death. Half of the songs sound like they are demos in Steve’s mind.

It worked well live, but the song is the answer to the question: "How would have Virtual XI sounded with Bruce on vocals?" Well, the answer is "Not that great" (in the same way as Lost in a Lost World shows how The X Factor would have sounded with Bruce on vocals - still boring for the most part).
