The three weakest IM tracks of the 80s?

My votes are for:

Charlotte the Harlot
Sheriff of Huddersfield
Black Bart Blues

Prowler features some cringeworthy lyrics, but the song rocks so hard that I can nearly forget them.

Severely disagree with your disagreement :D

The instrumental section in QFF might be the best part of the entire album for me. The way Steve changes his pattern in the second half of the repetitions, the lead tone which is simply glorious, both solos being utterly brilliant. Could listen to that on loop forever.
And Sun and Steel’s and Flight of Icarus’s riffs are just silly. I remember thinking back in 1983 that this was just not Maiden. Flight has a good vocal melody line, great lyrics, good solos and a fantastic bass line to save it though.

Oh definitely! It's an addictive part.

Sun and Steel is a very fun song with a great sense of flow. It’s neither an obvious hit nor an obvious filler. It feels more like a song from a different reality, as if a slightly different version of Iron Maiden somehow broke through into our world.

Just listen to this song in the summer while driving down a deserted road, with sunlight breaking through the canopy of old trees, while you’re feeling good and the vibes are perfect. Don’t focus on the lyrics - just absorb the overall mood and the vocal melody. Then you’ll understand.

It is what it is. And it always was.

Just sunlight and steel. Life is like a wheel, and it’s still rolling on...

A Matter of Life and Death is too depressing for me. And I don’t mean lyrically. As someone whose native language isn’t English, I primarily pay attention to the overall musical landscape, and in this case it feels far too cold and grey to me. If only the album cover had been sunny instead, ha ha.
The musical landscape of The X Factor is dark as well, but it feels warmer to me.
To me, overall, TXF feels a bit darker than AMOLAD.
Dance of Death album doesn’t feel dark to me. To my ears, it sounds too raw, harsh, and even clipping in places.
But musically, its overall landscape feels more uplifting - more major-key than minor-key, imo. They sound plus minus happy and energetic while everything clips and hisses around them, ha.
If I had to compare them, Brave New World feels more lightly melancholic than Dance of Death. Don’t you think?
Agreed. And both are like equally lightly melancholic.

Interesting take. The chorus is like the Invaders' chorus, from a different era (and not common approach) of the band.
It feels like a filler because of the very simplistic approach, no solo from Adrian (a co-writer), but fillers are mostly written by the most prominent writers, in the 80s it was Steve.
