What's the weakest 80's Maiden album?

I chose Piece of Mind. Not meaning it is a bad album or anything. But just compared to the rest, it is the weakest. Sound wise it is the worst with the rhythm guitar tone.
 
I agree that POM has the worst guitar tone (aside from the debut). It's very soft and muddy sounding especially when compared to the raw attack of NOTB.

That being said, I've heard a few folk here who think it's their best guitar sound so I guess it's really in the eye of the beholder.

What version have you listened? Because I find that each version made the sound bassier than the previous one. The original mix has more bite on the guitars.

It is indeed a great, raw guitar tone. I mean, it is METAL, not rock or prog, so it needs some edge.

As for the poll, I voted Killers (only 2 real smashers, more fillers than the others), but if we talked Dickinson-80s only, it would be TNOTB.
 
Not the worst but the least brilliant: IMO it's their debut. And to make one thing clear: Not only do I think this is an album with zero fillers, it features one of my top 10 Maiden songs in Phantom Of The Opera. The Number Of The Beast is a close second place.

But then again filler material from 1980 to 1988 as far as I'm concerned, it's Gangland and Quest For Fire. And although being quite meh-ish they're still listenable and enjoyable to a degree. I'll go as far as saying IMO they'd be top 5 songs in other records post 80's.

I absolutely agree about Gangland and QFF.
How about Heaven can wait? It's generally regarded as the least favorite from SIT by fans.

"Weakest" and HCW in the same sentence is unthinkable in my book. 10 ou of 10 even with a somewhat repetitive chorus. Which is a trait common to other fan favorites: Deja Vu, Fear Of The Dark, SSOASS, The Wicker Man, Brave New World, Blood Brothers and For The Greater Good Of God (just to name some), and IMO none of them lose their charm despite that aspect.

As i said it`s the weakest of a great album, by no means a bad song. I enjoyed seeing it live in 2023 but it was nowhere near as impactful as the majority of the other songs from SIT on that setlist.

Of the list you mention above i would only really say The Wicker Man and Fear would be real favourites of mine .

Nor are they mine (perhaps with the exception of FTGGOG). If you read it carefully I wrote "other fan favorites" (yes, even Deja Vu is highly held, especially now that it's the only SIT lacking live attention). And the only reason I don't like HCW live even more is due to a certain overplaying and the fact the chorus is a weird sing along (unlike the majestic bridge). That being said the HCW studio version with its fully sang chorus still gives me the same goosebumps it did back in 1987. But then again, opinions and tastes... it all comes down to that. And that's the way it should be.

Yes i saw what you wrote, my point on a personal note was that style of song you were mentioning probably isn`t my thing in the world of Maiden.

Correct and how it should be ,you give it a 10 i give it a 7.5, hardly a bad song.

Heaven Can Wait is a banger, faaar from being the weakest. That honor goes to Sea Of Madness, followed by Stranger. Both those songs have phenomenal solos, but I don't really care for the rest of them.

Sea Of Madness is ok , probably an 8 for me to HCW 7.5. Stranger is way above both in my opinion.

I wore the album out back in 1986 and the only time my interest waned at all was during HCW.
