Short-answer questions

I personally doubt they rehearsed much of anything that didn't make the setlist in 2005, since otherwise they would've used something other than Wrathchild replace Charlotte the Harlot. Maybe something like Prodigal Son at best since there's been rumors about it, but probably only in a "nah this doesn't work, let's drop it" capacity, similar to Infinite Dreams in 2012.

To be honest, I loved hearing Another Life and Drifter. They are not winning any songwriting awards but they are definitely songs I associate with the early days. The delay to hear Icarus was a shame. It was epic on the LOTB tour but would have been even better in 1999-2005. TTAL is not one that I have to say I missed.

I like to think they also rehearsed Killers, Still Life, 22AA, Children of the Damned and Prodigal Son.
Another life sounded great in 2005

For anyone who has/had the final frontier mission edition: does bonus stuff still work? I was planning on getting my standard edition replaced for this deluxe one, but I see website where bonus content is supposed to be is down, so is it worth buying this deluxe edition?

I could check, but yeah, I think that site is dead. Anyway, the packaging is really cool! I think is worth having for that only. The extra stuff was some wallpapers, pictures, The Final Frontier videoclip and a little documentary that you can find online.

When did Sooty first appear on Nicko's drum kit, and has he always been dressed in tour-appropriate attire? The earliest picture I found was from the AMOLAD tour, with Sooty dressed in camouflage.

It goes much earlier. The first time it appeared live was during the Seventh Tour of a Seventh Tour (1988) but apparently, they "met" one year earlier:

I knew he'd been on the Sooty Show in the eighties, I just couldn't find any pictures of him on Nick's kit from that time. Digging a little deeper I found the below, not sure exactly when it's from, but it's nice to know Sooty joined the kit pretty much immediately after Nick's appearance :)

Lovely pic! Nicko looks so happy there.

It was recorded at The Marquee on April 3, 1980. That whole gig is resting on the Maiden archives waiting to be released and is the earliest official live version of the song.

Are you sure about this? To me it sounds an awful lot like the Reading 1980 recording.

When was the debut album released?

The sources are more or less evenly split between 11th April and 14th April 1980. An announcement in the New Musical Express from 29.03.1980 says 11th (here - this is also cited by Wiki), the Commentary also says 11th. The official website and @Luisma's book say 14th. 11th was a Friday, 14th was a Monday. All other Maiden records from 1980 were released on Fridays, with the only exception being Women in Uniform, on a Monday. However, the NME piece is only an advance announcement, and the release date might have changed since. I don't know where the IMC has its date from. With the official Maiden site, you'd think they would get that right, but it's full of errors.

I'm thinking Loopy's book may have reliable information, but it's not accessible to me right now.

I think British Steel or some other big album was released on the 14th, and you would have to imagine all albums came out on the same day of the week

Music Week - Published April 12, 1980

I always use the source closer to the event I claim in the book.

It also shows my point about albums being released on the same day of the week is wrong as Animal Magnetism is released on the Friday.

I agree, although here I'd say the main argument is that it was published after the 11th. Anyway, I think this settles it, thank you!
Oh I thought the argument was if it was published on the 11th or the 14th as I didn't read the other posts! In any case, happy to have helped :)

Yeah, at least that year, the HM album were released by different labels in order to compete with each other.. .Don't know if that also happened other times as I haven't study that
