The best five short rockers Maiden have done since 1990?

naranja

Ancient Mariner
Obviously in the eighties there was loads of them...

I have found that Maiden writing good short songs has become rarer and rare over the years. I never really cared that much for Speed or Light, Final Frontier, Wildest Dreams, Days of Future Past etc.

I suppose the cut off length would be about 5 minutes long

Anyway since 1990-

The Wicker Man (obviously)
Futureal
Man on The Edge
Rainmaker
Stratego

I legit read the title as "The best five STOCK BROKERS Maiden have done since 1990?" LOL!

I mean, the quality control has been pretty agressive since the last five or six newly created threads.:lol::lol:

Well? Who are the five best stock brokers because we need to know quite frankly?

Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris, Adrian Smith, Dave Murray and Nicko McBrain. (Bonus - Janick Gers). I mean, they create stocks and then sell to their clients. Totally money minded...

Good question. Maiden don't write as many short rockers these days, which is a pity imho.

1. Public Enema Number One
2. Be Quick Or Be Dead
3. Judas Be My Guide
4. The Wicker Man
5. Rainmaker
I forgot No Prayer has some nice shorter songs on there. I might swap Stratego off my list for Be Quick though

Easy for me:

Be Quick Or Be Dead/Judas Be My Guide
Futureal
The Wicker Man
Rainmaker
Stratego

edit: next in line is Different World.

Nine out of ten songs are shorter than 5 minutes :D Whether they count as rockers and if they are good, that's a different question. I quite like NPFTD, but that's also because I started listening to Maiden just after it was released.
The songs blend into one for me but I don't dislike most of them

I once did a similar exercise however I left out No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark as I don't like those albums.
That being the case, here are the 5 minutes or less songs:
Futureal 3:00
The Rainmaker 3:48
Wildest Dreams 3:52
The Fallen Angel 4:00
Days of Future Past 4:03
Man on the Edge 4:10
Different World 4:17
The Alchemist 4:29
The Wicker Man 4:35
The Mercenary 4: 42
Lightning Strikes Twice 4: 49
Tears of a Clown 4:59
Stratego 4:59

So here would be my Top 5 of those above:
5. Lightning Strikes Twice
4. The Wicker Man
3. Stratego
2. Futureal
1. The Rainmaker

That's difficult and easy at the same time.
Songs considered:
Stratego
The Alchemist
Different World
Rainmaker
The Wicker Man
Futureal
Judas Be My Guide

Top 3 is easy :
1. The Wicker Man
2. Stratego
3. Futureal
Then it becomes more difficult... Probably
4. Rainmaker
5. Judas

Very hard to pick just five, but it would look something like this:

Lord of the Flies
Rainmaker
Monkey Song
Wicker Man
Different World

Lord of the Flies is one of my favourite Maiden songs of all time.

Rainmaker is an amazing, unfairly disregarded, melodic piece.

Death or Glory is the Aces High 2 people had been screaming for since the reunion. So people got what they wanted and it's no fun getting what you want, so they decided to dislike it because of a random line in the lyrics. I think it's an absolute top-tier 10/10 Maiden song.

Wicker Man is an essential Maiden classic, and there can be no debate about it, IMHO.

Fifth place will go to Different World, because it's a great melodic opener that is just about perfect for its album.

Honourable mentions: Futureal and Judas Be My Guide.

Left disregarded: Days of Future Past. A monster of a song, and I find it hard to classify it as a "short rocker" just because of its duration. It's more of a short epic, and a fantastic one at that.

The Wicker Man and Rainmaker are the absolute best.

Next, probably Futureal.

After that it's a toss up between Judas, BQOBD, and The Alchemist, all of which are great for different reasons.
I love the Brave New World and Dance of Death albums so much. The highs are wonderful. And I really enjoy the short songs from the Blaze era. Man on the Edge and Futureal would kill in a modern Maiden set

Okay so if I'm putting a strict rule of no songs over 5 minutes it would probably be this:

1. The Fallen Angel 4:01
2. Stratego 4:59
3. Be Quick Or Be Dead 3:24
4: The Wickerman 4:35
5: Days Of Future Past 4:04

Futureal: My favorite short rocker they've ever done.
Judas Be My Guide: Super catchy and a tragedy that it was never played live.
Rainmaker: So many amazing melodies in this one.
Stratego: Great melodies, Bruce sounds brilliant, the gallop is back!
Different World: Badass main riff, relatively uncommon type of chorus for later-day Maiden.
