Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

For context, the BBC censored Kneecap (Irish rap group)'s live performance because of their pro Palestine sentiments. Meanwhile, Bob Vylan (punk band) who were allowed to be live broadcast called for Free Palestine and death to the IDF. The whole thing was a huge embarrassment for the BBC and riled up the right wing media (hilariously so) including the Daily Mail who called for them to be arrested.

Anyway, it seems that Leana is politically alinged with Sharon Osborne which is ironic.
 
Yeah, I saw that too. What an embarassment and utterly pathetic. She follows multiple far right politicians like Le Pen as well.
We know that Bruce holds some conservative views and has had his hypocritical Brexit stance, but his wife has gone off the deep end and full on right wing populism.
 
I don't really want to think about what Bruce sees in her, what that must mean about himself. Hopefully at least the thing about her posting a concentration camp with the words ‘depends on the context’ isn't true. I want to be able to continue to admire Bruce as a singer without an unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth...
 
I don't think it's realistic to expect Bruce being oblivious to her political leanings, but I also don't see him support some of the far right figures she supports. He has had his stupid and shitty takes over the years, but I don't see him being that far gone.

At least on stage he has these rants and song introductions like with Death Of The Celts, Blood Brothers or The Clansman, where he emphasizes resilience, the value of freedom, everyone being welcome and part of the Maiden family regardless of sex, gender, religion or race, and so on. Sure, we can be cynical about it and say it's either an act, PR or only extends to specific groups of people, but we simply don't have enough information to determine that.

Let's hope her shitty views are solely hers and Bruce spends his time with her with anything but talking politics.
 
What does ‘following’ people have to do with anything?

I ‘follow’ all sorts of ghastly people out of interest, to see various sides on any given story.

It doesn’t follow that I endorse everything they say.

And as for the Glastonbury moron: if you can’t see why getting the crowd to chant support for killing Israelis (or anyone for that matter) isn’t beyond the pale, then I’m concerned for your cognitive abilities.

What you do is irrelevant. She doesn't follow them for shits and giggles, she clearly endorses those people, given the stuff that she posts. For example an edited image of Auschwitz, where instead of "Arbeit macht frei" it said "It depends on the context". And she keeps posting a bunch of xenophobic and right wing shit.

So, if it walks like a duck and all that. I'm certainly not gonna be charitable with her. Bruce gets some benefit of the doubt from me, but not Leanna. She has shown her colours quite clearly.

So she’s possibly right wing. You realise that quite a large percentage of western countries are right wing?

Is that intolerable in some way for you?

She follows and spews far right views. That's more than right wing. We are talking about fucking concentration camps.

But, yeah: I personally have an issue with that. That's my stance, my opinion, my belief. Am I not allowed to have that? Or does tolerance only go in one direction?

She can have her views. I can have my issues with those views. I have no respect for people with far right beliefs. If people are unhappy with this stance of mine, so be it, but I won't apologize for that. Rather: Good riddance. It's not necessary or even realistic to get along with everyone out there and be friends with everyone. I'd rather surround myself with people who don't spout ignorant and bigoted shit. It's that simple.

But as I said, as a Maiden fan with his own views and opinions, I hope her views aren't a reflection of Bruce's stances.

I’ve no idea what she’s posted or how it’s been interpreted. I know nothing about her other than she married B. Dickinson.

I would bet hard cash though that she’s not someone who ‘supports concentration camps’.

With all due respect, how can you claim the latter if you also state the former? As you said, you don't know anything about her. Is it the hope that Bruce wouldn't marry such a person?

I hope this doesn't come across as hostility or ganging up on you, I'm simply genuinely curious what your thought process is on this.

Dickinson is a reasonably well educated Englishman of the post War generation, who has a lifetime of written creative work we can analyse.

The idea that he’s secretly fond of Nazi/ concentration camp enthusiasts is too ridiculous for words.

Not just fond of them, but would marry one?!

That looks like she’s mocking someone who was trivialising some sort of atrocity by using a ‘context’ argument.

It is true that we don't know the entire context. But no, as I already said, she does not deserve the benefit of the doubt:

She has repeatedly posted (and still does!) far right xenophobic content.

She follows multiple far right figures and politicians (somehow doesn't do the same with left wing figures though ;) )

And as I said, in my opinion there is no coherent way why someone would post this specific image. It's not clever or funny for a joke. It's not witty or deep enough for social commentary. Maybe she was ignorant and didn't know better? She's still a grown-ass woman though.

Others can deal with this how they want, believe what they want. I know that for me, her values are entirely incompatible with mine, I have no nice words for people like her, and I hope Bruce isn't infected by her vile beliefs.
