RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2025 Tour Thread *SPOILERS INSIDE*

My guesses:
  1. The Number Of The Beast
  2. Prowler
  3. Die With Your Boots On
  4. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
  5. Killers
  6. Powerslave
  7. Wrathchild
  8. Wasted Years
  9. Phantom Of The Opera
  10. The Trooper
  11. Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter
  12. 2 Minutes To Midnight
  13. Fear Of The Dark
  14. Hallowed Be Thy Name
  15. Iron Maiden
___________________________________________________
  1. The Evil That Men Do
  2. Run To The Hills
  3. Running Free
So... yeah. I mean, it's kind of strange they didn't play Running Free and only one song from POM. Plus, I changed The Clairvoyant for TETMD at the eleventh hour, so it wasn't much of a stretch from my initial guess. Overall I'm quite happy with the setlist Maiden picked and would go as far as saying it's a better one than the one I predicted. Just drop Aces High and play something else from No Prayer or POM. Other than that, 5 stars.

  • Murders in the Rue Morgue
Not my idea of a great opener but at least it’s something they haven’t done for twenty years.
  • Wrathchild
Zzz. This was so overplayed in the early reunion years it’s still a in-joke to fans now. No reason to ever play this one again, it’s not even one of their most popular songs, has it ever been on a compilation?
  • Killers
Good choice, not played for 26 years.
  • Phantom of the Opera
Good choice.
  • The Number of the Beast
Whatever. There’s a few songs they have to play live so you can’t complain about stuff like this even though we want the deep cuts. They didn’t play it on the last tour.
  • The Clairvoyant
Zzz. They kept this in the set during the Yanick and even Blaze era which was just weird. Better songs from SS they could have done.
  • Powerslave
Good choice.
  • 2 Minutes to Midnight
See The Number of the Beast.
  • Rime of the Ancient Mariner
I know you guys are all going nuts for this but to me it’s a slog, I’d rather hear three other shorter rockers. Those boards creaking in the middle are interminable, it makes me want to run out the back and jump into the swimming pool.
  • Run to the Hills
Yeah whatever. They have to play this on a tour like this, especially since it’s named after the song. But it needs to be the last song of the night not in the middle.
  • Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Good choice, but this and Mariner in the same show is a bit tedious since they’re so similar in structure with the piss break in the middle.
  • The Trooper
Meh. Dump it.
  • Hallowed Be Thy Name
Boring. Another one done to death for decades.
  • Iron Maiden
This is one of their worst songs and they feel obligated to close the show with it, it’s really stale. Doesn’t help that Dianno’s lyrics are particularly inane in this (and also Phantom).
  • Churchill's Speech/Aces High
Stupid. Bruce can’t sing this anymore. It’s just an excuse to get some cool spitfire imagery on the screen. I’m amazed Bruce doesn’t put his foot down and say he can’t sing it, he’s just damaging his voice at this point. It reminds me of the Blaze era when you had him singing a bunch of stuff he couldn’t do. Ever hear of “guilt by association” Steve? It just makes the whole band look bad.
  • Fear of the Dark
Meh.
  • Wasted Years
Why don’t they close with RTTH or TNOTB? They would be logical ending songs. This isn’t. And it’s also been overplayed over the last decade, so while it’s one of my very favourite Iron Maiden songs I have to say that it’s a meh.

They overhyped and underdelivered.

Nothing from No Prayer. Not even Daughter which is their only number one single! More than half the set is the same boring stuff they usually do. I thought after the fantastic setlists of the last tour (with major changes between legs) they had finally broken free of the stale sets and realized they could play the obscure songs and deep cuts and get just as good a reaction as they do with the old standards. It seems not. What a damn shame.

Of course if you hype the hell out of the setlist the fans are going to expect magic. I knew they wouldn’t do a whole bunch of rare stuff and stuff never played before but they aren’t even doing ONE never-played song, or Still Life or Infinite Dreams; both absolute no brainers that fans have been asking for for years. Maybe they think oh well we tossed them a bone and did Alexander last time, that’ll keep them happy. No, you just raised everyone’s expectations for this tour :)

The good news - there is a really easy way to fix it :

Dump Aces High. Open with Tailgunner.

Swap out Trooper or Two Minutes for Die With Your Boots On.

Swap out Wasted Years or Clairvoyant for Infinite Dreams or Still Life.

Swap out Wrathchild for literally anything lesser or never played from POM or SSOASS. Or No Prayer title song.

Move RTTH to the last song.

Easy fixes, all perfectly logical. This ain’t rocket science, if they just sat down and thought about it a little more they can please both the casuals and the hardcores really easily. The problem is they can’t possibly do that now, since they’ve dropped hundreds of thousands of bucks on all those videos that play for every song. Maybe that’s why they didn’t want to take any chances with a lesser-known song in case it didn’t work live, and they’d dropped all that cash onto a video. Easy solution - fuck the video, it doesn’t have to be for every single song. Switch the video screen to the live feed (which is on the side of the stage) and play anything! Have three or four songs and rotate them in that one spot of the show. Totally easy fix.

Hey man, what's up :)
I'm just watching live stream on Youtube of maiden's show
Sounds fucking great

Really??
They live streamed it?

Nah, some guy on youtube from the audience, cellphone

Too smart for Maiden

Nah they even told people don't pull your cellphones out :)

What's wrong with cellphones?? Their shows are sold out and it's not like they can't breath see or something...
As a fan who may or may not get to see this show next year I do appreciate video from the show, especially those of good quality.

Edit: have to add here - where the hell is the Future Past dvd, Rod? Heh

But if I was a performer I would much rather look out in the audience and see everyone getting into the show and giving energy back than looking at a sea of phones in front of people's faces who are just standing there.

OK but one cannot control the people or asking such things. It's not like they play in a tiny, bar-like venue. If at least they were offering streaming services many cell-phones would have stayed in pockets but they aren't. And with concerts being sold out there are many "clients" that want to see them playing without having to wait for an official video release, thus there are many cellphones out there to satisfy those "clients"

If they did a pro-shot of every tour like they used to do on BluRay (or put the shows up on streaming platforms like Netflix, if they want to join us here in the modern world) people would be less apt to film everything. First night aside.

Also :

In watching the videos it’s clear that they are now making the focus of the show be on the massive screen and the animations, and the band themselves are barely moving anymore, even Steve and Janick.

They are likely playing to a click track since the video is such a massive part of the production now. Be interesting to compare a few shows later on and see if the tempos are all identical, that’s the giveaway to bands using a click.

Sure, it is. Much like KISS did on their last tour, they’ve made the set pick up the slack while the band largely coasts out the front - compared to the past anyway. It’s understandable.

The ice on the screens is cool.

Slightly tedious sitting through two epics with three minute bass breakdown sections in the middle, both this and Mariner grind to an absolute halt in the middle. Suggest just doing one of them would be better for the flow of the show.

Man, Steve took a double dose of the black hair dye. Should have shared half with Simon.
