Both good bands of their respected genres but Dire Straits' catalog is overall much stronger I feel. Iced Earth lost their way after Horror Show....

Also, Straits have songs that I can listen too for the rest of my life...Can't really say that about Iced...

Always interesting to watch those plectrum-less guitar players: Knopfler, Jeff Beck, etc. I remember my guitar teacher bringing out Sultans as the next song I was going to learn. Fun tune to play.

It's how I learned to play guitar (no bad thing). I've had to spend literally the rest of my life trying to adapt to playing with a plectrum though!

I've always found using a pick cumbersome and it's one of the reasons I've never really learned how to play guitar. From a perspective of someone who plays violin family instruments, it just seemed to get in the way. So I pretty much prefer fingers for anything.

Knopfler used a plectrum in the studio, but finger picking everywhere else - weird.

Sultans, Romeo and Juliet, Money for Nothing - those 3 are the first things that come to mind about Dire Straits for me, in that order.
