The preliminaries are over. And if the lopsided results of the Sweet 16 are any indication, we are left with what is very much the consensus top eight bands in the World Cup of Maidenfans.

If it was RJD's career vs Priests it'd be a harder decision, but Dio (the band) vs Priest - Priest takes it without much thought required.
 
This is ridiculous.

I adore Dio, and even in his solo bands material I tend to like more of it than most do... but it just can't compete with Priest discography to discography. If you threw in his Rainbow/Sabbath work it would be a tough battle, but that's not whats being compared.
 
Seriously considering banning mckindog so he can never finalize the apparent result of this poll.

This too. Though I think if you threw in Rainbow and Sabbath/H&H, that wouldn't be close for me, it would tip heavily the other way. The two RJD-era Sabbath albums are probably my favorite metal records ever. But Priest simply did more groundbreaking and legendary stuff than Dio the band.
