Who's in for some more Maiden Cabaret?

You have to take regular in context, I read the FC interview with Rod and before that he discussed how they used to release an album almost every year, then tour. That those days are over and even newer bands release every 3+ years. He set up the "regular" industry time frame as every 3+ years,
Rod never heard of Joe Bonamassa then. :D

It's just nonsense. Both younger and lots of older bands release albums more often than every 3+ years. Not sure at who Rod was staring. Besides, with Maiden it's 4+.

He might be wrong about younger bands, but how many older bands can you think of that regularly release new music as good as Maiden's? The only one I can think of is Rush and they take even longer to put out an album.

Agreed, but you bring in a new aspect that Rod didn't mention, namely quality and time: "We can't bring the same quality as in the past anymore, if we do this every year, two years, or three years. We need 4+ years to come up with something good."

It might not be that they need 4 years to come up with something good, especially since they probably don't write music until they decide it's time for a new album, but rather if they made new music every two years the quality would probably start to suffer pretty quickly. Look at Megadeth, they release an album every 2 years and lately each one has been much worse than the last.

The thing is, we are all getting nervous because we know there's not that much time left, and many of us think they are wasting time in endless touring (I do). We've discussed the matter, but Adrian wants to write and release music (see his solo stuff), so does Steve, and so apparently does Bruce. So, what keeps them away from the studio as a band ? A kind of business plan ? For me, when they retire, having 16 ou 18 Maiden studio albums makes a huge difference, period.

Hopefully posthumously.

The medal has been awarded to this thread for the extraordinary distinction of having 106 sometimes elaborate posts devoted to absolutely nothing at all. As always, objections will be ignored.

Thank you for your attention.

I am not looking forward to more Maiden Cabaret but awarding a Maidenfans.com Medal of Stupendous Cabaret First Class with Silver Oak Leaf Clusters sounds like a good idea if it happens. :D

I wouldn't worry much about the time that's left in Maiden's gas tank. They're what, in their mid 50's now? Physically the only thing that may happen is Bruce won't run around as much, but he apparently stays in fantastic shape. Although the new material is a little more scarce these days, it's most likely due to maiden's back catalog being so vast and popular. They don't have to release a new album, but, lucky for us fans, lately they've been beyond good releases. Kiss is doing the same thing Maiden is doing, but I actually think Maiden are better at packaging their tours. Doing an almost all new material tour backing a new album, then doing a retro tour playing old favorites, beats Kiss at their game of constantly playing the older material with one or toe lame new songs thrown in. It's frustrating for us diehard old school fans of both bands, but I really like Maidens approach. IMO it's really refreshing!

Nicko's 61. If he packed it in, do you think they'd play on?

I care about his voice. It doesn't matter if he can run around.

No, indeed, they don't. But the first statement makes no sense.

Are they?

So they're not really "doing the same thing" as Kiss then! :p

If Nicko packed it in, fans everywhere would be devastated (myself included)! But I think that would be up to the band. When these vintage bands (and I use vintage lovingly) get to a certain point where one or two start to fall off the wagon, they tend to get replacements if they want to carry on. I totally agree with you for wanting more new material from the current lineup. Whether Steve or Rod would want to do that is on them.

As far as Bruce goes, frankly without his voice, there is no Iron Maidem in my opinion. Of course his voice is very important, I was just pointing out that with the future years coming he may not be as nimble or move around as much, but yes, as long as he takes care of his pipes, they'll be okay.

What I was trying to point out with the new material being scarce is that they are an established band with so many songs that people want to hear that they could sell completely out and just do the same old stuff night after night and still fill arenas because they have 3 generations of fans... The diehards from day one, the casual maiden fan, and now children of both. They know they have to cater to everyone. That's what I meant by they don't need to release a new album. If it were up to me, they'd be cranking one out every 10 months! Kiss are the same in that respect. They too have an extensive back catalog and have become the "ultimate tribute band" to themselves!

What I meant by Kiss and Maiden doing the same thing is that , yes, they both do tours that feature a ton of old favorites.
The biggest difference between the two IMO are Maiden are better at actually coming out with a new album and tour and play many songs off of it WITH the inclusion of a fresh stage for each tour. Then they turn around and play songs from only their back catalog, but package it as a "retro era" tour!

Kiss on the other hand has kicked the two founding members out, let two scabs dress like them, play the same old songs with the same stage as 2000, and sell toys... Oh, and yeah, put out 2 new albums that totally suck within the past 15 years!

Don't get me wrong... I still love the old KISS and I love Maiden. I'm simply comparing the two because no one can come close to putting on a live show better than these two bands. Musically though, Maiden would bury KISS in a heartbeat!

Could not have said it better myself. Kiss was the first rock band I got into in the 70s .. I will always love that era (and some of the stuff they did in the 80s) and the reunion was cool as hell at first, but they have been riding that wave since 1996 and they just sound like crap live anymore.

Maiden is on a whole different level in terns of playing live and coming out with albums that challenge their hey day and creating new classics. Iam not sure if any more you can say Wickerman is any less of a classic opener than Aces High ... Kiss is living off the 1970s .. they rarely even play anything from the 80s anymore much less the 90s and 00s and 10s
