Who wrote the lyrics

syl

Ancient Mariner
I thought that the lyrics were always written by Steve Harris or Bruce Dickinson except on some special cases ( like Murray for charlotte the harlot or Smith for wasted years and sea of madness), but now I’m not so sure and I couldn’t find informations in the commentary.

On the X factor, 4 songs are written by Bayley, Gers , Harris, and 2 songs by Gers and Harris but who wrote the lyrics. Is it Harris ? Is it Bayley ? Is it both of them ? Did Jannick co-wrote the lyrics.? Did he ever write lyrics for Iron Maiden ?

Same questions for :
Out the Silent Planet ( Gers , Dickinson, Harris).
Gangland (Smith, Burr)
Flight of Icarus (Smith, Dickinson)
Still Life (Murray, Harris)
2 minutes to midnight ( Smith , Dickinson)
Deja-vu ( Murray, Harris)
Can I play with madness and The evil that men do ( Smith, Dickinson , Harris)
Only the good die young ( Harris, Dickinson)

Well I can go on and on …

When Steve Harris is he only one credited for a song, I understand that he writes the lyrics and the bass-line but does he also write the guitar and the drum parts ???? If not why is he the only one credited ???

Thanks for your help

In some interviews he said that in the songs where he´s credited (hallowed be thy name, run to the hills...) he writes everything except the guitar solos

I think it was Nicko who wrote the lyrics of 'Losfer Words', but he wasn't credited! [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

For that matter, Dennis Stratton actually wrote the lyrics for "Transylvania". [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I know Bruce wrote the lyrics to "Flight of Icarus", and I'm pretty sure he wrote the lyrics for "2 Minutes to Midnight" also.

I would imagine that Janick and Adrian do more of the music than the lyrics. Although I did read that Adrian did most of Paschendale's lyrics on his own.

I remember Bruce saying that if its his name, and someone elses name as the credit, he just did the lyrics, and i would have probbaly thort Blaze would have done the lyrics on his own as well (maybe steve helped a little)

Flight Of Icarus - People have anwered that one [!--emo&:nana:--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/lambada.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'lambada.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Still Life - Murray: Guitar parts Harris: Drums, bass, lyrics

2 Mins 2 Midnight - Answered

Deja Vu - Same as still life i wud guess

The evil that men do/can i play with madness - Smith: guitar, some lyrics ,possibly bass Dickinson: Lyrics Harris: probably all the bass or some of it, Lyrics and most likely some guitar bits (based on both songs)

Only the good die young - Harris: everything music wise Dickinson: everything lyric wise.

And of course harris and adrian could do synth

I thought my question was rather naive, apparently it's not so obvious.
Thank you for your answer WW and to all the others who helped.

Adrian said in the Maiden biography that during the writing of Somewhere in Time, he started to write lyrics on his own, so I suppose before that Bruce wrote the lyrics and Adrain the music [!--emo&^_^--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/happy.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'happy.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Well I disagree cenp666, I think it is interesting to know who wrote the lyrics part and who wrote the musical part of songs. There is 6 persons in the band and they have different backgrounds and sensibilities...
Out of curiosity, I'd like to know who wrote what for the songs.

Like wise lyrics to me make up just as much of a song than the words..

But i have also read that during Paschendale Adrian did alot of reading and then wrote the lyrics..

Smith, Dickinson, Harris when these three team up I also have read that Bruce does the lyrics Adrian all the riffs and Steve Basically helps with Harmonies and arrangement.

Bruce wrote the Revelation lyrics [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
