Aria (Russian: Ария) is a popular Russian heavy metal band that formed in 1985 in Moscow, USSR. The music of Aria resembles the sound of NWOBHM bands, and they have been dubbed "Russian Iron Maiden" by the media. Most of Aria's lyrics have been written by the poet Margarita Pushkina.

Hm. The style of music is similar, but the contrasting songs don't sound alike at all. IMO, plagiarism has to be down to the nail to really be taken seriously. Also, do remember that Maiden have been around for thirty years and have written hundreds of songs: a similar melody or riff isn't unlikely.

:)

Wow, some real big brain there thinking Painkiller and Taking The Queen are by Maiden.

Let's face it: If you're having two bands that play a similar style that have been around for three decades each, you're bound to have songs or parts of songs that are similar to others. Compare Running Wild (1978) by Judas Priest to The Wicker Man for instance. I would have greatly appreciated if the bloke who made the video would have included information of song titles and years released, so we would have a fair comparison.

If this proves anything, then that Aria is a great band to check out for people who love Maiden- and I could have told you that before. ;)

You're missing a lot. And I mean, in general. There's a lot of excellent non-English language bands out there, including many that have been compared to Maiden, musically.

I have a capable grasp of French and German, so I'm not completely disenfranchising myself.

I'm not the best of polyglots, but then again, they don't write many songs in British Sign Language. :)

Yeah, but Spanish for instance is a very nice language to listen to, even if you don't speak a word of it. And Finnish sounds like you can speak it when you're drunk. ;)

Which you can't.

Well, I know all the words to Hoppipolla too. (Hopelandic) So maybe I'm not a complete lyrical fruitcake.

Just maybe. ;)

Any great songs in Persian, Perun? :)

Not even the Finns can.

They can. I know that for certain because I have yet to see a Finn who is sober.

Well, if Aria is the Russian Iron Maiden, then Ahoora is the Persian one. Their stuff is a bit straining to listen to however, because of the very low recording quality. Angband is also very good, they sound a bit like an Oriental version of Iced Earth. There used to be a band called Aliaj which I am very fond of, but their presence seems to have been eradicated. Same goes for Shab, a black metal band.
And then, there is the guitar god, Farzad Golpayegani. You can listen to him, his stuff is entirely instrumental. :P If this bloke was living in the west, he'd have eclipsed people like Yngwie Malmsteen or Steve Vai long ago.

I love non-english music. I wish it was more widespread, but unfortunately people that decided to stick to their native tongue usually never make it out of their country. the best success they can have is regional. Like spanish language bands have all of latin america, nothern africa, portugal and italy to take a good hold of, I don't know how far reaching other languages might be.
