Which Maiden studio album has the best guitar sound in your opinion?

I wonder what pedals and amps they used on VXI. The overdriven sound is a bit weird.

Probably just their usual rigs. It's just that Steve Harris doesn't know how to mix guitars.

I'd say that the guitar sound on X-Factor is even worse; it is paper thin and drowned out. On the other hand the mix is much more dynamic and Nicko has a great drum sound whereas Virtual XI seems flatter over all.

Both albums sound like shit. But VXI edges it slightly since you can actually hear the guitars (as bad sounding as they are).

But if we're now discussing worst guitar sound then it has to be the debut. They sound like an electric banjo plugged into a tin can stuck inside a paper cup.
