Where would you place Maiden?

Btw. Deep Purple's Black Night riff is lifted from Ricky Nelson's 1962 interpretation of 1935 Gershwin song, Summertime.
It's hard to relate Beatles to songs like that.

In a certain way, you are right, music theatres were open to a wide public and to broad social categories, but his music , although much appreciated, was not "popular". It was "learned" and academic music, which required a deep knowledge, which "pop" music doesn't. Anyway, I fully agree with you arguing that the Beatles are not the alpha and omega of all things that happened afterwards. If we had to design a family tree, I'm not sure Maiden would link in some way to the Beatles.
Think about it this way... The Beatles influenced Sabbath (they said themselves). Sabbath influenced Maiden. There's the connection.

Guess we'll have to agree on disagree ;)

No we don't, because figuring out complexity of stage props is something that can be done without introducing any subjective opinions. But if you aren't up for doing it alone... I just don't care :)

Next time when you watch LAD, and there's an over-the-stage camera scene, pause. Then remember to do the same on Flight 666 DVD. It's pretty obvious.

But you just had me think more into it, stages were OK on recent album tours. TFF tour had some interesting stuff on stage and good backdrops. Maybe it's just retro and classic tours that suffer on details.

Exactly :)

And that's exactly what i meant.... The retro tours, yeah, kind of lacking.... the album tours however... a whole other beast man

Sorry, but the Maiden stage set up is not changing much over the past 15 years on the album tours - it's the same basic design with different Eddies and back-drops (and some exceptions like the Tower props on the FF tour). In comparison, other big bands change their stage a lot more with each tour (light rigs, stage structure, screens). Just take a look at the various tours over the past few years by Bon Jovi, Metallica and U2.

The Maiden stages from the 80s were, in my opinion, far better and creative than the recent tours. Case in point, look at the huge difference between Powerslave and Somewhere In Time tour and then look at what's really different between the AMOLAD and FF tour.

I also agree with a previous post that Maiden's pyro is not cutting edge (like it was in the 80s).

Generally, it seems the band just aren't really interested in being innovative with their stage sets anymore.

Of course, the quality of the performances is what really counts and I have no complaints on that front (song selection aside!)
