Where to go in London?

Hey everybody,

I found these boards on coincidence, but so far it seems like it is actually the perfect board for me:-) let me introduce myself: I am Chris, 22 years old, I am from Germany but currently living in Austria and my favorite band is - of course - Maiden! <3
So now the time for me has come to actually visit the city where my (our) heroes come from. Since I have never been to London before, I really need some help finding the right bars. I mean, I can imagine that there are great bars, after all it's the place of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Yet I haven't found very useful information on the internet. Anyone here who can help me out? I mean, where do you go if you wanna have a good beer, listen to Maiden, Priest, Saxon etc and talk to nice people sharing the same passion? I would be really grateful for any answers:-)

Up the Irons!

Chris

Hey Forostar,

thank you very much for your help. I will check out the bars (if they are still there:-)) and let you know:-)

Cheers
Chris

Ruskin Arms is gone. There was a thread about that on the General Discussion board not too long ago.

I found a few old topics but I believe the Ruskin Arms doesn't exist anymore (or was it the Marquee? Or both?)
The Marquee that Maiden played in ceased to exist around the mid-1980's. The Marquee that I frequented (in my younger days) was in Charing Cross Road, which, again, no longer exists - it's now a pub. A bit of a shame as Friday nights was always: catch a band at the Marquee, then go down the road to the Astoria and see another two bands. Catch the milk train home at 3 or 4 in the morning.

I went to this pub that used to be The Marquee a few years back and felt all nostalgic. Despite many of the walls been knocked down to make the pub more open plan, I  could still make out where the stage was, the ticket booth, the toilets, and so on. I came over all emotional. :D
