Where has this band been in all my life???

I'm new to Iron Maiden, and Mexican. I can't believe I've been all my life unaware of this great band which is becoming my favorite. I knew about them but the rumors that they were satanists kept me away from them (I'm christian). Now that I've read about them and their songs I know that's pure crap. So far I've listened to Somewhere In Time, Number of The Beast, Powerslave and A Matter of Life and Death. I usually download albums, but I think this music is so good that It's worth having the original albums. I'm planning to get next 7th Son or Brave New World, I've been told they are excellent.
Oh, and my favorite song so far is Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Ahh you bought into the Religeous Right's anti music propaganda machine, Amigo. I thought it only flexed its muscle here in the states. But it is great you have discovered this truly amazing and unique band.

I'm pretty sure the band was right there, but I'm glad you're listening to them.  Make sure you get the entire catalogue, and be prepared for all the differences...subtle and otherwise.

Thanks for your replies guys!
Oh my God! I downloaded the song 7th Son of a 7th Son, I'm listening to it right now and it's brilliant!!
I guess I'm getting that one next.

Glad to hear you discovered them check out the song The Thin Line Between love and hate from the Brave New World album, one of the best instrumental parts from maiden.

@Light of Eärendil:

Seems your taste fits mine prerry much!  :)

Have a good time discovering all the albums, and don't rush too much. Even the "worst" ones have their qualities, and could become growers in the end.

Well I hope we get along pretty well discussing about this band... which is growing on me.

Thanks ___no5! I'm a big Tolkien fan, Lord of the Rings is one of the best books for me

I would also suggest checking out some of the Maiden's members solo works.  Especially, The Chemical Wedding by Bruce Dickinson, and The Tenth Dimension by Blaze Bayley.

Enjoy your discovery!

Yes, I would recommend you give your discovery ample time to sink in and be digested. While I started off with some of the newer albums, I am very glad that I took the time to give each album a chance and still continue to do so. Like Guinea Pig was saying, some of the solo work of the band members is pretty awesome (Bruce Dickinson's Accident of Birth for example) and there are other bands that have some of the sound of Maiden and yet are different that you might like (e.g. Savatage). At any rate check out the Iron Maiden Commentary and enjoy the journey!

P.S. Great username, I'm a huge fan of Tolkien myself :).

I don't think you can film the Silmarillion any more than you can film the bible. Both are stories that span thousands of years, have innumerable major characters with no single primary protagonist, and involve things like the creation of the world that would be hard to visualize. Further, I wouldn't want it filmed; for me, I think it would ruin the book. I was all for the LotR and Hobbit films, but not that one.

As for solo material by members of Maiden - I saw Tenth Dimension got mentioned, but I'd recommend Blaze's Silicon Messiah even more highly.

Speaking of Blaze, don't neglect to check out those Maiden albums (X Factor and Virtual XI). Many people here praise XF highly, while I'm more partial to VXI (no matter who played drums on it).

One or two parts from this work wouldn't hurt. I am sure it will happen one day. The story of Turin could be done, or Feänor and his brothers. :)

The Ten Commandments was quite a success.

Now that you mention it, I have previously thought the Beren/Luthien story could make a good movie by itself. I had almost forgotten having that thought.

Thanks for your replies guys. I would also like The Silmarillion to be filmed, probably 3 trilogies about the major stories in it (Feanor, Beren and Luthien and Eärendil) and also a movie of The Children Of Hurin.

Speaking about this, has Iron Maiden written any song about Tolkien stories? Reading their lyrics I have found that they like to write songs about literature, which is one of the things I liked Iron Maiden so much.
