Where Do You Buy Your Cds?

JackKnife

A Vivid example of masculine pulchritude
I live in a very small town where it's virtually impossible to find rare or even imported cds. Therefore I'm usually purchasing things on the net. I can say that the marketplace developed by Amazon is very efficient. You can find used items and the prices are very correct. I visit this site for books or cds.
Amazon.com and amazon.uk are very good too and I even bought bootlegs on amazon.com (but shush...). Does anybody know good places where one can find rare recordings and/or bootlegs?

I try to buy things online as it is easier to find. Mostly I use:

CD-Wow, all the articles are very cheap, too bad there are only new cds.
Bol.com, a very broad range of articles. It isn't really cheap but the service is perfect.
Free Record Shop, I don't know if there's also a site in English, I haven't tried though. This is one big messy place. Things are hard to find and my last order got delayed with two months :: . It is cheap and has "more" cds (I don't search all genres) but forget about this one if you aren't in for one big delay.

So these are the three places I mostly get my music from.

Edit: I don't know where to find rare recordings. I just posted on the title.

play.com
amazon.co.uk
cdwow.com occasionally

Depends on the album really. froogle is pretty good at finding a bargain and often turns up rare albums - usually on ebay mind

The best place to find "rare" records is probably posting around on various forums and message boards. Post in "local" message boards to see if people from your part of the world have a particular record.

This method is probably better for selling, rather than buying [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /]

I find that 101cd.com is very good for cheap CDs and DVDs, but I don't know how good it is for rare stuff. If you subscribe to their newsletter, you'll get info on special deals. I've got all the Maiden albums on there for £4.99, for example.

Every CD I've ever wanted has been at one of the local music stores. I try to shop at the independant ones when possible, to support the little guy.

Unfortunately, there is no "little guy" in my town, so I buy my CD's from Best Buy, a big nationwide electronic retailer.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I buy most of my CDs and LPs in the local used record store. The selection is always coincidental, and they're generally very short of Metal (every half a year a Maiden and Priest collection pops up, but it's all gone not even a week later) but if you have enough patience, you will find quite a few gems very cheap ("Silver And Gold" for 4 Euros example). The only thing you have to consider is that if you see a 12" Sanctuary single for 5 Euro, you should buy it immediately, and not wait for the next time you're there [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sleep.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"-_-\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sleep.gif\" /]
And in general, it's cheaper than buying the stuff new. I still buy new CDs, but I look for cheap used ones first.

I know every single one of my bargains can be found on eBay too, but quite frankly, flipping through record boxes, critically examining a record or simply thinking "hey cool, I've been looking for that for ages" is just much more fun.

Then sometimes come the days when I get to go to Nuremberg, which has much more and much bigger of those used record stores, which is a token of heaven then. Not to mention flea markets and record fairs [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" /]

Which doesn't mean I don't utilize eBay. When I am specifically looking for a rare item -or even a single-, I check out eBay. The same goes for videos and DVDs.

I mostly buy my cds from a local place. They have EVERYTHING. [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/smile.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\":)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"smile.gif\" /]

I use them too, pretty good for most stuff.

Usually get mine from HMV in town... it doesn't stock much decent metal though... for that I usually head to London and to Camden Town. Resurrection Records is a good shop there.

At the local used/new cd shop, or online. There really isn't any place in town to find good music, unless Britney Spears or rap music qualifies as good (not my taste).

I like Century Media's online shop. Sometimes, they are slow.

Amazon has always been reliable and I am surprised by the cool stuff that pops up on there at times (used and new). They always seem to deliver fast as well. I am in Florida, so maybe that helps, who knows?

I would heartily recommend Overstock.com. All my experiences with them have been top-notch, but my sister-in-law did have some problems with them. She was buying a piece of furniture, so that might explain it. It all worked out finally.

There are some regular dealers on eBay that are reliable, although the only one that comes to mind is Hot Tracks something or other. I do remember the rip-offs though! :: There are plenty of those! Usually seems to be people in America that want to rip you off. I seem to have great experiences with sellers from Britain, Japan, and South America. I try to think of buying on eBay as entering a casino and putting my money down. It's a gamble, but when you win....

If it wasn't for the internet, I would be a much poorer music fan.

BTW, Dave Murray is a bright, shining, titan of a guitar player whose solos fill me with ecstatic delight! ::

There's a great little record shop (which I used to work for long ago) in which I have found rare Samson and Maiden vinyls! Generally I don't make a point of going in unless I have some change and are going past the shop. Other than that I get my CD's from Amazon.com, and rarer stuff from eBay.

HMV's metal section is ridiculously overpriced. All the In Flames, Stratovarious and Limbonic Art CDs are 29.99! :: Do they really think I'm going to settle for that?

There used to be two small record stores near me that I bought from. Both were major chains but each carried a rather different range so they complemented each other quite well. However, one closed down recently and the other is so expensive I hardly ever use it anymore.

Instead I've started buying online, mainly from Ginza.se. Their selection isn't the broadest but the prices are really cheap and they usually have what I'm looking for. Definitely a site to check out if you live in Scandinavia.

Recently I haven't bought as much CDs as I used to though for some reason.

Can you do distance ordering from Ginza, Shadow? Like for a gift? The girlfriend's birthday is coming up and she's been ranting about some albums for awhile...

Seems good, but then again HMV does have some good stuff at 15 euro so it's not all bad. I also found a great metal store that does lots of great "out of the box" material . And also, the staff know what I'm talking about when I ask if something is in. Rather than other shops where they look at me in confusion, wondering if I am just joking! "Who the fuck are Wyrd, Evoken, and Esoteric?" :: Classic.

Hey, they're damn good bands! [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/happy.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"^_^\" border=\"0\" alt=\"happy.gif\" /] Not everyone's cup of tea, and it can be expensive to get some of this stuff, and it can be hard to find as well. But, it's not like that I'm going to settle for some pop crap just because it's cheap and widely available. (Which is probably why most morons buy that crap [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sleep.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"-_-\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sleep.gif\" /])

I must say I'm not quite sure. They only deliver to Sweden and Norway though.
