i still think Steve got it wrong Doogie would have been awesome IMHO

Thanks!  :ok:

I don't know if Maiden would have been better with Doogie. But I think he would have done a much better job with the Bruce era songs.
And it's really hard to understand what Steve was thinking.I mean you call these 2 singers for an audition and ask them to sing - obviously - a lot of stuff from the 80s and in the end you hire the one that is less efficient(to put it elegantly  :D).That's weird.Or maybe Steve sees more.

Are there more informations about those auditions? I only heard that the finalists were James LaBrie, Blaze and Andre Matos.

According to the biographies, Steve ONLY wanted a Brit for the job.  Was LaBrie British?  I thought he was from New York?

He's Canadian.

British Columbia?

Just a word on that whole "only a Brit" thing. It's not the first time I've had this but I really hope it's untrue. The best person for the job should always be picked regardless of where they're from IMO.

LaBrie is from Ontario.

I'm not sure we'll ever know who was the finalists for sure. I thought that being British was a criteria as well.

I know that (jokingly) Steve said that it was necessary that Adrian's replacement in 1990 was a Brit, could kick a football (soccer ball) and down a pint of beer in 10 seconds. :D

From what I recall, 'Arry was keen on keeping the band British which I believe is why he only went for UK singers. And I believe the last three was Doogie White, Blaze and someone else.

Steve Grimmett claimed to be in the last 5 - but we only have his word for it.
