What is Maidens signiture Sound and Song?

SMX, I see we do the same thing. Spread out over multiple discs. The only song you included but I haven't/didn't/wouldn't is Bring Your Daughter... and by all means, please include To Tame A Land any chance you get. It perfectly foreshadows Powerslave and is the precedent for The Nomad.

I agree, I've been listening to NPFTD and FOTD lately and there are better songs than than Bring Your Daughter...

There are definately a few if you look hard enough....

Run Silent, Run Deep
The Assassin
Mother Russia
Be Quick or Be Dead
Afraid to Shoot Strangers
The Fugitive
Fear of the Dark

etc, etc all better than Bring Your Daughter, which I find too hokey (and Charlotte the Harlot was one of my favorite songs for years, speaking of hokey)

Maiden on one CD??? You people are insane.

Yes, yes, more is better, of course.  But expanding to more CDs is cheating.  If you were sentenced to prison and you were allowed to bring only one CD of Iron Maiden music, what would you burn on it?

EDIT: assume the CD player won't play MP3 files

Anything but Hallowed. In prison, I don't think I'd want to hear those lyrics...

The Unbeliever
Purgatory
Caught Somewhere In Time
Stranger In A Strange Land
Look For The Truth
Wasted Years
Deja-vu
Sea Of Madness
Only The Good Die Young
From Here To Eternity

And if I were more optimistic about my time in prison, I'd replace the last track with Heaven Can Wait

;)

The Prisoner, of course.

I suppose I should have anticipated prison-themed songs.  Well done.  My underlying real question was, if you could only have one disc of Iron Maiden songs (whether you were in prison or elsewhere), what would they be?  It's a difficult choice.

Very difficult. Some albums have to be completely omitted due to lack of time. I assume that official live versions are allowed?

I'll try this:

01. Prowler
02. Hallowed Be Thy Name
03. The Trooper
04. Powerslave
05. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Live After Death version)
06. Deja-vu
07. Infinite Dreams
08. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
09. Afraid To Shoot Strangers (A Real Live One version)
10. Brave New World
11. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns

As you can see I am an eighties Maiden freak. Alas no Blaze era songs and hardly Paul Di'Anno era. Extra difficult was that I like long Maiden songs very much. Biggest omissions are Alexander The Great, Sign Of The Cross (Rock and Rio version) and To Tame A Land. They are imo not really weaker songs than the ones above but I really wanted to have ATSS, because of nostalgic reasons. Other favourites include Sea Of Madness, The Duellists, Lightning Strikes Twice, Genghis Khan, The Evil That Men Do, Dance Of Death, Only The Good Die Young & Paschendale.

Anyone else wants to try this? Remember: less than 80 minutes! :)
