What do these songs have in common?

TrooperEd

Invader
O.k., I know a lot of you know Maiden forwards, backwards and inside out, so excuse me if this has been posted before.

The Clairvoyant

Afraid To Shoot Strangers

The Legacy

It's small thing they have in common but I never thought of it till the other day.
.

The Clairvoyant        ----------  " Feel the sweat break on my brow "

Afraid To Shoot Strangers -----  " I wipe the sweat from my brow "

The Legacy -------------------  " as all the sweat upon your brow "

I know is probably looked down upon here to post something so simple, but just thought i'd share the little insight with everyone.

That's actually a good point - all three songs lyrically penned by Mr. Harris, I believe.  A favourite metaphor of his, good to note!

All songs mentioned do have a mood that's ominous, the clairvoyant, as the seer's omens plague his mind. In Afraid to shoot strangers, the sweat on his brow, his fear of having to kill again, and in the legacy, an infamous leader's sweat on brow is he is challenged by his faults as a less than desirable one

It's pretty close for me. But it's definitely the one Bruce song that Blaze really nails. Haven't heard him sing Hallowed yet, though, really want to hear what he does with it.

I was really hoping for AFTSS on the AMOLAD-tour. I have a feeling that Bruce's current vocals (clearer and darker compared to the FOTD era) would do wonders for this song.

I do think that the best AFTSS Bruce has sung so far is on A Real Live One. I like the vocal work, and the audience participation  adds a whole lot.

In my opinion a definite no. Blaze goes off key during some calmer parts.

@Shrike: ATSS was the coolest nineties song I've ever witnessed, live! :)

Interesting that all of those Maiden songs have either Steve or H.  Coincidence, or do they just prefer the key of E?

It's an easy key to write in, as I said.  For example, the intro of 'Nothing Else Matters' can be played with one hand.  I seem to remember someone on a forum (quite possibly SMX) mentioning the four most common keys in rock music, due to their ease.  Can't remember the other three, but E min. is one of the easiest, as it only takes two fingers to play an Emin. chord, and virtually all thrash metal is based (mostly) around open E (or E flat) picking, e.g. Slayer

I seem to recall some parody about Metallica and their use of the E and C chord whereby they put a copyright on it so no other band could use it. Can't remember how it went, but it was quite funny. I think this was a response to their fight with Napster. :D

It was probably one of the Camp Chaos cartoons...they don't really like 'Tallica :P

To me both Blaze and Bruce vocals are great, but there's something about Blaze when he sings the Afraid To Shoot Strangers part that makes it more effective.

Ahh yes E minor. Though we know E minor is overused, Iron Maiden use it to their best. Here are some Raven didn't mention.

For The Greater Good Of God
Blood Brothers
The Nomad
The Trooper
These Colours Don't Run
Dance Of Death
Aces High
Killers
The Duellists
Sea Of Madness

Yeah, there's lots more. Somehow, the magic of Maiden has made E an extremely effective note for their songs.
