I have been following this votenumber1 site and was hoping Bruce would get nominated
they just added him today...voting starts Jan 7th
let's all get behind him because many on the site think Freddie Mercury is gonna win it all
here is where u can vote:

sorry, not sure how to do the link correctly
peace out & let's get behind him!

Why should I vote for Bruce if I think Freddie Mercury is the best rock singer of all times?
And besides, is there any significance to this poll?

I think with over a million votes and Maiden fans requesting Bruce to get in, which he did yesterday, my answer would be "yes"

Not a bad initiative, though it's handier to make this topic on the day (or after the day) when the poll is online.

Bruce is certainly my favourite living rock singer, but Freddie Mercury will get my vote any day.

NP: Queen - Ogre Battle

I've never understood the fuss about Freddie Mercury, his vocal range is not as wide as many other rock singers' incl. Ronnie Dio, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Rob Halford... whatsoever.

For me, it has a lot to do with the sound of his voice.  He might not have the range, but it's very quality to my ears.  Plus, the man put on one hell of a show.  One hell of a show.

Well, I voted on their current poll, and thats for the greatest rock band of all time.
Even if Maiden were on this one, I would vote Queen. Its just one of those things, they are undeniably the best.
I dont know what people have been smoking to put Aerosmith and Bon Jovi on that poll though, I think theyre incredibly over-rated. Good, but no where near the best. Not in the same league as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rolling Stones and the Beatles anyway.
Rolling Stones lose because they were good till the early 80s.......then they became forgettable....still though they wrote some great rockers and do deserve to be on the poll.
The Beatles dont quite make it either because although they also wrote some fantastic songs, there was a lot of garbage they also wrote that people seem to forget.
Led Zeppelin are in my opinion the only ones who could topple Queen.

Wheres the other legends of rock though? Wheres Deep Purple? Pink Floyd? Black Sabbath? I cant believe they got eliminated before Bon Jovi of all people.

Im going to be voting similarly in the Bruce/Freddie battle. Bruce is one of the best metal singers....but one of the best in rock (keeping in mind the genre of "Rock" encompasses metal too)? No. Freddie was far better.

Anyway......before I blow off into super-rants, this is just another poll with no real indication of whos the most popular as being the best.
Oh, and I fully expect Elvis to make it on the singers poll and totally wtfpwn everyone just because of his name

It's all personal. I guess having an own favourite band must have something to do with it. Myself, I can't see why I would vote for Queen. I admit that I don't know all albums. However I do know May is a great guitar player, and that Mercury was a great frontman. Queen was groundbreaking in their style (multi-layered arrangements, vocal harmonies). I realize how important they were and how succesful they were.

But Bruce is for me a greater frontman, and Maiden's style I like way and way and way more. If Maiden is my favourite band, why should I not choose them to be my "best rock band of all time."

Ah, I didnt say Queen was my favourite band though. Maiden are my favourite band of all time. Id also say that my second fave band of all time is a competition between Rush and Judas Priest.
However, I try to avoid bias (not saying you have bias by the way) and if I took a step back and looked at musical history and the skill of both bands over their respective timelines, Id have to say Queen were the best all the way no matter which band member was writing as well.

I dont even listen to Queen all that much but I cant get the ideal out of my head that they are the best of the best.
Or maybe I do have a bias because its a bit of an british thing to blindly support Queen. (Just like being a Mancuniun means I HAVE to like Oasis, lol). Oh,  but its interesting to note that all bands named as the "best" tend to be british. Why does no-one vote for other great bands out there from non-english speaking countries? Theres obviously plenty out there.....(seeing as english-speaking countries make up less than 25% of the world..)

Objectively seen you might be right that Queen were way more succesful than Maiden and they might deserve to be the "best". But then don't ask us, don't make a poll about it. This poll is a collection of personal views, without any objective rules, facts or criteria.

Therefore in these kind of polls I always see "favourite" and "best" as equal terms. So if Queen is not my favourite band I'd never voted it as "best band of all time".

Yes exactly, it asks the question of whether you can think one thing to be better, but prefer another. Quite possible, I'd say.

Well, I know what you mean, but there is a significant difference between favourite and best.  Maiden might be my favourite band, my *personal* best, but objectively, they are in the upper echelons, but certainly they are no Queen in terms of popularity and such.  Anyway, such internet polls can be obviously rigged by anyone visiting a rabid fansite and posting a link...

For me its 100% Maiden. Best band of all time and my favorite. I'd say Zeppelin is #2 and Rush #3...

Its funny because Rush is technically "ripping off" Led Zeppelin. However, they were more inspired by them than ripping them completely.
The main reason I think that Rush didnt really hit it off at any point in the UK was because 1. They sounded too much like Zeppelin earlier in their career and 2. When people did start buying their records, it was at the time of a certain "revolution" in the music scene hint hint, you can see this on the Early Days DVD, the most requested songs list from the Soundhouse shows Rush with 2 songs on their I think.....but obviously over shadowed by a certain band's success at the time.
In other words, the reasons why Rush wasnt successful in the UK as in the US and Canada is because of your two named favourite bands

Rush - Zeppelin? Hardly the same, or hardly a convincing argument why Rush should be less succesful. Rush had their big breakthrough 1976, with 2112. They have already released 18 studio albums. 2112 was the fourth! Ardius, I think you're talking about the mid-seventies, the period after that Rush was never compared with Led Zeppelin. Two very, very different worlds, if you ask me.

The British just were a bit ignorant, I guess. Sometimes people in the States are just earlier to see something good.

Other examples:
-Dire Straits
-Sherlock Holmes

QUEEN Declared 'Top British Band' - Jan. 4, 2008

BBC News reports that QUEEN has beaten THE BEATLES to be crowned greatest British band of all time by BBC Radio 2 listeners.

They pipped the Fab Four in a live contest, trouncing other finalists THE ROLLING STONES, OASIS and TAKE THAT.

The bands were judged on songwriting, lyrics, live performances, originality and showmanship.

More than 20,000 listeners voted by email, text and phone. The five finalists had been selected over the previous week by Radio 2 listeners.

DJ Mark Goodier then hosted a three-hour live New Year's Day show in which a host of celebrity guests, including boy band MCFLY, joined listeners in debating who should win the title.

After all the votes had been totted up, the winner was then announced live on air — and it was revealed that QUEEN had beaten THE BEATLES by just 400 votes.

Tasteless joke.

Queen is a fantastic band, Freddie was a talented singer, Brian is a genius with the 6 six strings, Roger is a great drummer and singer (I'm in love with my car is a classic) and John was terrific on the early albums

BUT

Queen is 100000 miles behind The Beatles. Abbey Road alone means much more to rock music than the entire Queen catalog (which is too f *%$#@ good).

No other band has done so much for music in 8 years (62-70) than the Beatles did.

IMO, Metallica should be banned from any such poll/vote. They sold out way to early (no, not during or after the Black Album even, it was by putting out "One" as a video on MTV. I could see the beginning of the end as early as that).

As far as radio play for Maiden in the states, there is now a "Sanctuary"  ;). If you do not already have Sirius satellite radio, I recommend it. The commercial free radio station that plays a ton of them is called "Buzzsaw". Check it out.... of course you can drive all across the US and Canada and not lose the signal too.  :)

On topic: I'll vote for Bruce, why not, he is my favorite. Steve Perry from Journey should be on there too, don't laugh, that dude could sing.
