Vinyl albums cover mess up

Dick Brucinson

The TRUE Dick Brucinson
So, with the exception of TXF I have all Maiden albums in their remastered versions now, and also I have all the original vinyls I bought in the 1980s as a kid. By comparing them I'm seriously wondering why ALL the covers are redone in such bad quality. The edges are cut away, the colours are blurry and unsharp and so on. Any idea why the hell they didn't do proper reissues?

I think all we know for sure is that whoever printed the art on the new masters used low-res art to copy from, or something along those lines. That said, it's not like the band are going to come out and acknowledge the issue so unless someone does, there's no way to know for sure.

Still shocked that a super professional band doing it that way.

By the way, back then in 1990 when the First Ten Years Maxi Singles were re-released, the quality of the cover prints was even worse.
That's very true. For most of that First Ten Years 12-inch vinyl, I noticed the quality and resolution were not that great. Although 'Running Free, Number of the Beast, Flight of Icarus, The Trooper, Aces High, and 2 Minutes 2 Midnight is very very good quality. I compared both the First Ten Years version '2 Minutes 2 Midnight' to the original version and in fact, the 1990 one is very very sharp. Most of the 2014 album reissues were not that great either, especially Piece of Mind and Somewhere in Time, Seventh Son were a bit low-res. 'Iron Maiden, Killers, and Powerslave were very sharp and had excellent resolution. I wasted money buying the 2014 version of Somewhere in Time. I went on eBay soon after and got the superb 1986 original. The difference is night and day. The 1986 version is much sharper and crisper, and that's how anyone should be viewing it.

Few months ago I scanned old vinyl and CD covers from local band from Slovenia because we were planning to release CD box of all studio releases. I scanned all old covers with 600 dpi resolution, repaired and refreshed them with photoshop, even found all fonts which were used on original releases, so I really don't understand that band like Maiden allowed all that crap with old scanned covers. They should have originals from Riggs and should scanned (and repaired with professional software) originals. I scanned all old cover with 600 dpi resolution.
