USA Politics

Politics having nothing to do with it, I've cut down on so many streaming services. Only have an F1TV service and MLB.TV (for fantasy baseball purposes) service. Even then the ownership/administration structure for MLB is getting changed for next year it sounds like, so that'll be going bye-bye.
I heard there’s talk of restructuring the divisions (after adding two expansion teams) to be like the NFL: eight divisions, four teams apiece. We can take this into the MLB topic if you want.

Just don't watch too much TV.
I’m very much the same. MLB and NFL are about it for me.

This is actually a serious security fuck up. The general assembly is typically highly coordinated with hundreds of world leaders and VIPs in New York. This all requires coordination between governments, secret services and local police. Clearly there's been a breakdown somewhere. No doubt due to Trump's gutting of the various integral systems that are required to run a functioning state.

Or worse, it was deliberate.

Or even worse, and surely true: both.

Since we all seem to agree on Wikipedia, here’s an article that some should find informative: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Party_(United_States)

The very first sentence presents an idea that's considered laughable and not up for debate by the usual bullies.
Yes, in the context of global politics. Liberalism is a center-right philosophy and the Democrats are undeniably center-right. Both major US parties are right wing parties. If you disagree make an argument and let's see if it holds up to scrutiny, how about that?

And "bullies"? Just because I called out your lies? lmao
You have a habbit of mischaracterizing posts, make blatantly untrue claims about their contents and argue against strawmen that no one actually believes. Like when you claimed that people are calling Azas fascist, which you conveniently ignored when I asked for examples.

If you don't want to be called out on your lies I suggest starting engaging in good faith; that would make things much simpler for you and for everyone involved ;)

You could argue Vaenyr is being aggressive, dismissive and is behaving poorly from your point of view, sure. But saying Vaenyr is bullying simply isn't true. This is a heated thread which everyone here chooses to participate in, which in essence is all about the members proving that others of differing viewpoints are wrong and/or full of shit. "Calling out" people's arguments and inconsistencies is like the basis of the entire thread nowadays. The thread isn't very pleasant, I agree on that.

How about talking about politics in this thread?

I hadn't watched Kimmel before, but with all the noise about his cancellation and return to the air I decided to check out his monolog last night. As he mentioned in the broadcast, it seems like the Trump administration's attempts to silence him backfired because his ratings were higher than usual. I actually thought he handled the whole thing pretty well, acknowledging why some people may have taken what he said the wrong way but explicitly without apologizing for it - as he didn't say anything he should apologize for. Talking about the importance of an independent press that is able to criticize the president and Trump's unfriendliness toward the 1st amendment being anti-American behavior really hit the nail on the head for me and is why it bothers me deeply that even a single American would vote for him. This guy has no respect for his country or appreciation for its values. He is as unAmerican as electric cars (because, thanks to his policies, we will likely be buying them mainly from China).

I've expressed in this thread that corporate America's willingness to easily bend over to Trump in the second term being something that concerns me. It's pretty silly in the grand scheme because a talk show host is not top of the priority list, but seeing Disney bend to public pressure in this way gave me more of a shred of hope than I've felt since last November. It also goes to show, as I tried to explain in an earlier post, if there was an actual public resistance to Trump he probably wouldn't be in office anymore. I hope that boycotts like what Disney experienced over the weekend continue and people start to wake up to the fact that their spending decisions can enable/disable fascism.

I still believe that America has institutions that can curb Trump's fascism, but those institutions aren't really working right now. The Democratic party is, if it's even possible, handling Trump even worse the second time around than they did the first time around. I'm extremely worried by the fact that there is no central message going into 2026. Everyone is so easily distracted because of all the noise and Trump's strategy of "flooding the zone with shit" is working because instead of focusing on the economy and the Epstein files... well take a look through the last few pages of this thread if you dare. I think Democrats are strong contenders to take back the house next year just because of geography alone, but it's by no means a sure thing especially in this modern climate. Trump is going to try every extralegal measure he can to steal the election, but he might not need to even do that. If he can intimidate the press, would be donors, or other groups from supporting Democrats the party might not be strong enough to win elections. This isn't something that is getting talked about much as I think everybody's idea of Trump going full dictator is him literally cancelling elections, but he can shift the balance of power in favor of Republicans for the next decade just by depriving the Democrats of their fundraising sources.

This is all to say I hope the party gets its act together and figures out a central message for 2026 soon (ideally one focused on economics). Right now it's not looking good.

It is amazing how spectacularly Disney fumbled this situation.

They announced that they're gonna increase the subscription prices for Disney+, something that must've been in the works for months. They misread the situation and thought the right wing's framing of Kirk would be met with a more favorable response by the general populace. Turns out most people aren't buying the whitewashed image of a far right white supremacist. Their caving to fascistic whims led to them hemorrhaging subscribers at a crucial time when they needed them to stay prior to the price hike.

Not only that, multiple shareholder groups have indicated that they are gearing up for lawsuits against Disney, and have demanded the necessary paperwork. Disney fucked up and I hope this will cost them dearly. You can't trust massive corporations; they don't care about people. They only care about money and are the first to bend to fascism, to appease dictators for the promise of a little more money. Fuck Disney.

Meanwhile we have another radicalized apolitical edgelord killing ICE detainees and JD Vance increasing the violent rhetoric against the left (once again baselessly). These situations are a gift to Trump, who is a rapist, pedophile and convicted felon, and who once again can shirk the responsibility of releasing the goddamn Epstein files. The fact that the supporters of the "small government" party, the party of "family values" aren't openly protesting against MAGA but are actively supporting this madness speaks volumes.
