By and large, yes. I think what all of us (including myself) need to be more aware of the fact that "left" and "right" take different meanings almost everywhere. In former socialist countries, for example, anything that is moderate democratic is considered "right", whereas the term "left" is reserved for the remnants and successors of the authoritarian socialist dictatorship; however, this also leads to a general suspicion of anything that is labelled "left" in the west.
