Upcoming limited Powerslave picture anniversary vinyl

The picture disk looks pretty but every picture disk sounds like ass because the process they use to create them kinda fucks with the materials of the album. It's not "pure" vinyl, if I remember correctly.

What is the source of the audio, though? The 2015 remasters, or the originals?

It should be the 2015 remaster. Unless specifically stated, you're not going to see new releases with old/original masters on them.

Weird, I could have sworn that the original announcement specified that not only is the Powerslave zoetrope the 2015 master, but the recent Wal Mart Somewhere in Time pressing is also the 2015 remaster and that this is the first time any 2015 masters are available on vinyl. The link in the OP contains a very brief description without much useful information at all about the product.

What 2015 remaster? I just checked, copyright on Powerslave and other remastered vinyl albums are from 2014 to 2017. I have all that releases.

The 2015 remasters were the last batch of remasters to be released on CD.

As far as I’m aware these are the latest versions of the albums currently available. I may be wrong but I thought the last vinyl re releases came out before 2015.

No, latest vinyl releases are from 2014 to 2017. I have them all at home.

There's a repress of the 80's albums, I think but maybe all the albums, that quietly appeared in the last few months that have the same mastering as the 2015 CDs.

This is it. All releases since 2015 are all from the hi res digital remasters done in 2015. Anything released since 2015 is just a re release and will be the remaster from 2015.

True. Only thing that's different is © copyright, its 2024 instead 2014 or 2015.

A repress is a re-release with no changes made to the content of the album, so this ain't it. There's a big fat chance its source is the remixes made almost a decade ago (yes, it's been 10 years since Maiden re-released their catalogue). If I'm not mistaken, the changes went as it follows:

-Re release with remixes for streaming services
-The boxsets on vinyl
-The individual cd releases with the stickers

They all come from the same remix process made in the mid 00s iirc.

I don't have the new repress that I mentioned above, but it has been confirmed on the official forum that they are not the same mix as the ones from the boxset

There are no remixes. No Maiden album has ever been officially remixed.

You're confusing remix with remastering. Those were done in 2015 from the original analogue tapes and every release since then on vinyl, CD and digital has been from those remasters.

The complete boxset is from 2014, the year before the remasters. I'm not sure where those masters were sourced from.

This is my understanding of the timeline:

2014 - Vinyl masters for the albums released between 1980 and 1989 sourced from original master tapes
2015 - Mastered for iTunes from the original master tapes (from @Spaldy's video), this was then sourced for the CD reissues that came later. Entire different remaster project from what they did in 2014.
2017 - Vinyl issues for the 1990 and later albums, I believe these are sourced from the 2015 project and are identical to the CDs.
2022 - NOTB 40th anniversary vinyl released with 2015 masters.
2023/2024 - New versions of Powerslave and Somewhere in Time on vinyl use the 2015 masters and are thus a distinct master from what was initially released in 2014. AFAIK they haven't applied the same masters to any other 80s album besides these three, although I would be curious if they have quietly done this for other albums since afaik they are still in print and available to purchase new from retailers.

And yea, as Spaldy said, stuff was remastered but nothing remixed.

Thanks. So, it's quite a bit more complicated than it would originally seem. I'd be tempted to pick up the SiT yellow vinyl and do a comparison with the one I have.

The 2014 vinyl release were all from the original analogue tapes. I’m not sure if they were mastered specifically for that release.

Here you can find more information:

Tony Newton mentions that Steve has a joke name for him (Filter), because if it is good enough for Tony, then he gives it to Steve...

Edit: I see @Spaldy has already shared the video but did not dare mention Tony Newton's involvement!

I also nickname him Filter as he filters out all of the good sounds.

They have in the last couple of months, they have shown up in shops without any fanfare

I remember having this lengthy discussion with you on the topic and, yes, I concur with these findings.
