Unleash The Archers

An unexpected surprise!

I like the song. I felt that the keyboards and so forth on Abyss really suited them, and this feels like a progression of that.

The one thing I'm not enthused about is the fact it's another concept album. The previous two were decent enough pieces of music but I don't think the stories were interesting enough to make into full albums and I'd rather they turn their hand to more focused, standalone songs.

I'm slightly hesitant about the keyboardy stuff. I find there's a danger of female voice + very prominent keyboards starting to sound like dance music. But then they were going for a sci-fi theme in Abyss and in the new album, plus they did go and do that Acoustipex electro take on Apex, so yes...

Anyway, UTA (or Napalm Records at least) has thrown a bit of money into an AI video, which looks pretty good.

New album is out tomorrow. I really like 3/4 of the singles released so far (less keen on Seeking Vengeance).

I'm waiting for the full album before listening to this last single, but yeah, I'm hesitantly pumped for it. Ghosts and G&G are great, Seeking is meh.

I was honestly pretty whelmed with most of Abyss when it came out, though, and now I think it might be better than Apex.

I'm really liking the new album so far. It has a lot of range, and goes to some places I wouldn't expect - particularly on Gods In Decay and Give It Up Or Give It All, which are early picks for my favourite songs here. Seeking Vengeance is probably my least favourite track, though I don't mind it, particularly in the context of an album where a song as good as Green and Glass might not make my top 5.

One thing that stood out to me much more broadly is how much more prominent the bass feels in this album. I can't really make it out in places in Abyss, but it's unmissable here. The aforementioned Gods In Decay (seriously, this song is going to be living rent-free in my head for at least a month) is a good example.

I'm still trying to make my mind up. I started out only kinda liking two songs, and being sceptical of the general sound. I'm fine with the idea of electronic but some of it - especially Ph4/NT0mA - are starting to verge on very generic power metal. I'm liking the overall feel of the album a lot more after a few listens, though, and like the fact they have more of a storyline going on again, one that fits with the electro side of the music at that. Apex was great for storytelling, but in Abyss it was like a space chase followed by a quick wrapping up of the Immortal saga.

I absolutely agree about the bass. I remember someone speculating that they didn't actually have a bass player at all in Abyss. Although in the lockdown live performance they said the touring bass player played on Abyss.

I agree with this to a degree, especially in the first half of the album, but the second half is much more adventurous.

First impression is that the album takes a few listens to take off, but there are some great tracks on there toward the end. The first two are very weak though. I agree with @Brigantium that it leans a little heavily on electronics and the guitars feel too low in the mix. Could be a lot heavier.

I actually really like Human Era as a scene setting opener, and Buried in Code (even if I want to call it 'Byooreed in Code' - thanks Sabaton). The Collective is the one I really can't get away with. And I wish Gods in Decay didn't sound quite so cheery, because it really isn't. Blood Empress has grown on me a lot too, that's a worthy track to end on.

UTA European dates announced for early 2025! I've got my eye on London tickets.

The album has sunk in a lot better with me now. I began to enjoy the storyline and I find the music tells the story well. It's definitely got more going for it than Abyss in that respect, which felt rushed in parts, just trying to pad out the end to the Immortal storyline.
