Hard rock: Judas Priest - Sad Wings Of Destiny (it's quite more into classic metal but I didn't want to put two records in the next category)
Classic metal: Judas Priest - Painkiller
Thrash metal: Slayer - Reign In Blood
Progressive metal: Cynic - Traced In Air
Power metal: Helloween - Keeper of The Seven Keys Part 1
Death metal: Bolt Thrower - Realm Of Chaos (Slaves to Darkness)
Black metal: Samael - Above
Wildcard: Devin Townsend - Infinity

There are several other genres that could make it to the game like Symphonic Metal, Industrial Metal, Doom Metal, Gothic Metal, Post Metal, Folk Metal, Viking Metal, Groove Metal, Speed Metal, Grindcore, Stoner or Avantgarde Metal (just to name a few).

You missed the point of this thread.

You have to pick your favourite metal album in each subgenre. Feel free to bend the definitions a little. But the catch is the album you pick eliminates any album from that year, and 2 years on either side.

IE, if you pick Powerslave for classic metal, you can't pick Master of Puppets for thrash.
